Re: lyric meanings

Hey jus saw yr req on the forum & tot I'll share wz u though it is not a direct translation of the lyrics but the gist of it...as my Mandarin isn't fantastic either:

The night is cold, let the night stars brighten up the dark skies.
Like a small voice, the past songs linger in the wind creeping into my heart.
I do not hide that I hope my love does not come only once.
But with dissapointment, I'm still as before.
Who will walk with me still the end of time.

Chorus:
I'm looking for someone to lean on.
Where is the love, it's laughable what I'm still yearning for.
I'm still willing to dream about the day we've met
to commemorate that we've met before.

The night is long, there are times we have to walk alone.
No matter what, I will still find my own way.
Like a show, it's more fashionable to met & knew & loved each other in an instant.
I still thank you, for brightening up my life once.
But who will walk with me till the end of time. *Chorus*

Re: ANITA MUI 3 CD MEMORIAL COLLECTION

Anything to do with 'BID' or 'AUCTION' not through the legal way should be altogether ignored especially when the items concern Anita's CD/VCD/DVD albums and movies. If we purchase Anita's products through illegal way (through copy/duplication from original albums, bidding from third party, pirated copies), it will not help to boost the Anita's selling record. An artist's popularity rating is based on the number of original copies sold. Anita deserves to be awarded the highest rating for number of albums sold.

Buddhist Prayer on the 5x7 days by 200 fans of Anita Mui

Re: Buddhist Prayer on the 5x7 days by 200 fans of Anita Mui

I could not attend the ceremony, as I am not a member of the fans club, though I wanted to go. Anyone, since no one who attended the ceremony wanted to share the happening there, I would give you some general information about such ceremony.

I had such ceremony for my mother too when she passed away. The monks have to say different prayers for the deceased person during the ceremony, mainly help them to leave this world peacefully and for them to go to their next life quickly.

An alter is set too, fruits and food are prepared for the deceased. Lots of money and other things are prepared and would be burned after the ceremony.

The ceremony is about the same for every 7th day. But for the last one that is 7 x 7=49 days, sometimes might not held on the exact day, we usually have to burn the picture of the deceased (that is the one we brought home from the funeral home), and the clothes we wore during the funeral.

Any old articles on Anita ?

Woodstock,

Is there a possibility for your websites to upload old articles from magazines or newspapers as far back as 1981? Actually, I'm also looking forward for the CD on the first TVB singing contest where Anita was one of the contestant, and do you mind to tell me is there such a stock in the market?

Thanking you in advance.

Re: Any old articles on Anita ?

ML:

We can upload those old articles of Mui, if you provide us information. But you can find those old stuff in other websites of other fans, so we see no sense to do it in our websites now. However, in future, if I have cleared up with all my backlog in transalation. I might consider to do it, but promise nothing for the moment.

The song for the contest "Season of the wind" is not included in any CD so far. But in recent TV memorial program, we had that song. So I would suggest you to record that on video tape, and then you convert it to CD format yourself.....hahaha....hope that is not too hard a task for you.

Thanks Woodstock.
Actually, I'm looking for the whole set of the contest as I wanted to watch performance of other contestants to judge and pointed out myself why Anita could stand out from the rest and be the winner. I'm also looking for the subsequent yearly contests where Anita was the judge. I'll try TVBI and hopefully, they are loanable from the TVB authorised rental shop in Singapore.

U know what, just now I'm trying to send a "Thank You" note to Denise Ho's email which I obtained from Mui Club list, but only to be returned with "No such email address". What a Luck!

I listened to Denise Ho's interview on her encounter with Anita Mui and was surprised to know that she's Anita's superfan since at the age 9 and she even registered herself in Anita Mui's club. Then I saw her name and tried to send email to thank her for taking care of Anita.

Anyway! Never mind! Hope that she has time to read this forum.

Write consolation note to Anita Mui's mother

I foresee a need to send a consolation letter (not a supportive letter for her or her son's actions) to Anita's Mui mother to take care of herself, not to think too much, just be happy and to ignore all those bad reports about her. I've surfed everywhere that many and many of Anita's supporters and fans including me have criticized Anita's mum and I don't think she can handle it anymore.

Anita loves her mother no matter what. I think now, is the right time, I should at least do something good/beneficial for Anita. I do not wish to be one of Anita's fans/supporters to be pushing her mother of the age of 82 to collapse one day and regret for the rest of my life and I couldn't face Anita if this tragic happens.

Anyone of you neighbor of her mum or who knows where she live, could you kindly forward my fax/email note to her mum? If there is a one-single note with signatures from fans would be better. If somebody could initiate this small campaign, would be better.

Please kindly help..................

Re: Buddhist Compassion

Reading through the pages especially on the 1st page about all her friends who were at her sickbed chanting and praying "Amitabha", I could visualize the pain of those who were there like "your heart being stabbed by a knife", that not one single human could stand the agony of wanting to cry and call Anita's name but have to suppress. The pain is really too much as I'd experienced that for my late father. My father's last breath with a loud throat sound when a bowl and a chopstick was knocked on top of his head (Chinese tradition for taking path to another world...?...) which is quite similar to the 800years Buddha Status placed softly on top of Anita's head. This is not easy even for the toughest guy in this world.

Woodstock

First of all, would like to thank you for your effort and hardwork in perfectly translating into English. You're undeniably the great translator. However, I've a very small correction to make for the word " Ningborche" as "Rinpoches" because I read this spelling from one of the Tibet book about death long time ago. Please forgive me If I'm wrong.

Articles in [Buddhist Compassion] are really beautiful. I will try to translate them ASAP.

As I am not a Buddhist myself, I do have difficulty in lots of terminology. Should you find any of my translation inappropriate, please feel free to correct me.

ML: Thanks. Rinpoche is the correct word. I have been using Ningborche because I translated directly from the Cantonese [寧波車], while Rinpoche is translated to Chinese as [仁波切]. Will try to use Rinpoche in future, as it is the correct English word. BTW, hope the Chinese characters here won't come out funny.......

want to let you know that i am also in sg. be very careful when you go get the "free" vcd from modern beauty salon. they are very "gan" (dishonest). have a bad experience with them recently. they will do all they can to "persuade" you to sign up 20 sessions of facial costing $1,200+GST, and they will withhold the vcd till you sign on the dotted line. am very angry that i was stupid enough to fall for it. i am going to CASE (www.case.org) to see if i can get back my money. so would like to warn any potential "customers" to think carefully if you really want to sign up, and be prepared for the strongarm marketing tactics.

Glad that you'd bought the book. The one-time free facial spa is a a compliment from Modern Beauty salon. I redeemed the VCD from AMK outlet and the promoter did not hard sell their products for facial spa and instead, she gave me the condolence book to place messages for Anita Mui and I didn't do the facial spa which she said I can keep the coupon and give to my female friend to do the next time. First of all, good that you got the book. It's a very good book indeed.
In HKG, we just tear the side coupon and present at the counter in order to redeem the vcd. And the facial vch is another part of the coupon. They shouldn't force you to do the facial. You can tell the girl that you will come next time, but this time you only collect the VCD.
Anyway, good that you got the book, that's all matters!

Hi! Can anybody help me?

Hi! I am a Singapore fan of Anita. I just would like to know if the book "The Heart of a Modern Woman" has an English version. One of my colleagues did check it out for me at one of the bookshops here in Singapore but she said there is only the Chinese version. Which means that if there is no English version then I will just have to buy the Chinese version even though I don't know how to read Chinese just to get to see the pictures and redeem the VCD which is better than nothing. It's just that I would love to be able to read what is written in the book. Does any of you guys have any idea?

Just a bit to introduce myself. I am a Malay and I can speak a bit of Mandarin but cannot read or write in Mandarin. I love watching Anita's movies and listening to her songs since I started working with Chinese colleagues. They were the ones who introduced me to Anita and I loved her especially her comedy shows. She's just so cute!! I even bought her song albums (both Mandarin and Cantonese versions) even though I don't understand Cantonese. I enjoy her singing and the melody. I feel that I could feel the song just by listening to the way she sing it. If it's a happy song, you feel delighted and if it's a sad song, you can feel the pain in the song. She is one singer that can make you feel whatever she sings. Even my baby niece would stop crying and fall asleep when I played her sentimental songs i.e. Nui Ren Hua (don't know if I got that right, excuse me if I don't).

One thing I would like to tell all of you is that I really enjoy coming to this site and I think you people are a bunch of friendly souls. I have been here for quite a while already but i just got the guts to post in the forum today. Since I am a Malay, I do not think that I would be welcome but what the hack! I want you all to know that I am Anita's fan too and i was very depressed over her demise. I have been watching her movies and listening to her songs everyday just so that I don't feel the pain of loss.

Re: Hi! Can anybody help me?

Hey...Just wanna say it's comforting to know that Anita's music touched people from different walks of life, regardless of race or religon which is what good music & a voice like hers should deserves. Although I'm a chinese but you know how seldom the language is being used in Singapore (well at least with my circle of friends) so it's just a tedious for me to comprehend some her lyrics & all...so hang in there & enjoy what her voice brings along with the melodies.

Back to your question: Unfortunately don't think that the Modern Beauty book comes in English translation but you probably would just wanna get it as a commemorative item instead.

Re: Hi! Can anybody help me?

Hi Virgo,

Happy to know you are Anita's fan. It's very hard to find non-Chinese fans, you know? For your information, there is no English version for the charity book.If you do not mind, I can try to translate them into Malay, page by page but not all in a single day, through our email exchanges. I'm a Malay-educated myself, so I don't find it a problem. To translate into English is a bit tough. You have to be patient because I've projects to do, hopefully, you will not blame me for being so slow........

Thank you for making me feel welcome and YES! I am going to get the book as a memorabilia. Don't care whether or not I can read it. What's important is that I get to keep it as a memento.

To : ML

Really appreciate your kind gesture. In that case, I will need your expertise. But don't worry, since you are doing me a favour, take as long as you want, at least I get to know a little bit from the book. Thank you so much.

Looks like I am going to be here to stay.

Hi Virgo

After reading what you just reply, I think I wanted to retreat. Just joking. It's my pleasure. Will try as hard as I can to perfectly translate them as closely as possible. If we have Malay version, then more Malay friends who love Anita can also read, right? Ha..ha...

You really got a sense of humour eh!

Anyway, I am glad that you are willing to do this favour. If it is not too much work, I think you are right. If translated into Malay, then it would really help Malay fans. However, really don't think that I should trouble you that much. I think English is quite a common language and I am sure everybody who use the internet would understand English.

Appreciate your kind thoughts. Will let you know once I catch hold of the book. Xie-xie ni.

Re: Hi! Can anybody help me?

Hi Virgo,

Sorry that I may have unknowingly placing an inappropriate word in my earlier reply. But please kindly do not feel that way. I'm a Malaysian, a Singapore PR and I know Singapore Malays are very good in English, better than me. As for me, I'm half-half in English, Malay and Chinese. I'm no expert in any of the languages, so to speak.

Wait until you buy the book, you let me know. Enjoy your day.

Re: ( Msia or sg fans- kindly enlighten me as to where to find VCD of anita's fantasy gig concert?

EK,

In KL, I'm not sure if you had tried to search around Bukit Bintang, Sg Wang Plaza or Lot 10? I think Popular Book Store (which also sells albums and VCDs/DVDs) might have.

In Singapore, you could easily find it anywhere in Singapore. If you're a tourist who frequents Orchard, then you can find her VCD at the Popular Book Store, 2nd storey at the Orchard MRT or MPH opposite the Somerset MRT, or if you frequents City area, you may alight at City Hall MRT and take free shutter bus to Suntec City where you can purchase the VCD at Carrefour or Tower Records, or you may want to walk through the MRT walkway to Suntec City and Marina Square and stop by the MPH. There is a "Sembawang Record shop" at fourth floor of Raffles City Shopping Centre, by taking escalator up after you alight at City Hall. Please do not purchase VCDs/DVDs of Anita's movies if you really want the hear original voice of the casts in Cantonese because most of the movies are dubbed in Mandarin.

Hope you could find what you want.

Re: ( Msia or sg fans- kindly enlighten me as to where to find VCD of anita's fantasy gig concert?

EK, I think Tower Record at KL Plaza should be a trustable source to find what you want because I could tell you that sometimes when you buy from a VCD store (not Popular or other authorised recording stores), the chances of you getting a pirated copy is pretty high.

Same as you, me too that now only I started to collect her CD albums and vcds/dvds. I've not have her Fantasy Gig yet but will buy soon. In Singapore, only TVBJ could broadcast her stage performance in the original version (Cantonese) but in public Chinese stations, no way her Cantonese songs and neither her speeches in Cantonese could be publicly broadcasted. It's a pity......

In my mild recollection of my childhood in a small village, I used to pursue my sisters and brothers to search for her cassette albums and almost everyday, I could hear her songs along with other artists like Alan Tam, Leslie Cheung, Roman Tam etc, broadcasted from radio, from neighbors' cassette player/recorders and video cassette player/recorders, from shoplots, from everywhere. Anita Mui was so popular in the 80s that I can tell you that if one (young and old; Cantonese, Hokkien, TeoChew, Hakka or Hainan) does not know Anita, she is definitely deaf. There is a trend and taste change in mid 1990s where Mandarin songs gradually replacing Cantonese songs to be at the top chart, and Mandarin albums of higher demand than Cantonese albums. Why I could deduce is most probably because of the influence of Mandarin as the medium of Chinese Language in younger generation. I like Anita's songs because of her husky, sexy and powerful voice and tone. Also most of her songs are sentimental with memorable and touching rhythms. (To tell you the truth, nowadays' melodies are more R&B like that almost all the rhythms are the same and too boring and you know what, no way to buy any of the artists' albums and I turned to buy New-Age musics/songs instead.)

I had Anita's cassettes with me until I came to Singapore. As you know, cassette player has been completely replaced by CD player and my cassette player was no more functioning and when I moved to another flat, I threw Anita and other artists' cassettes away and now, same as you, I regret for doing so. Now with Anita's departure, I've completely changed my mindset towards junk and old items that even if these items no longer functioning/looking good, they might be a priceless treasure as you may not be able to find them again, once you have lost or discarded them.

Re: ( Msia or sg fans- kindly enlighten me as to where to find VCD of anita's fantasy gig concert?

Su:
Thanks for reminding us that I'm astonished to hear that the VCDs/DVDs sold in Singapore are not original copies. But one thing I was puzzled as to why "Music Nation" never sued "Music Bation" despite the copies being widely promoted in these reputable retail stores? Or could it be "Music Bation" is the Singapore sole distributor/importer for "Music Nation". If not' then it's is a serious crime.... But one thing that may support your claim is that the price of the VCD is quite cheap (around S$10) if I'm mistaken.

EK:
Your price of RM110 for a VCD is so exorbitant. Is that the price for an original copy of a normal VCD?

From what I know,EMI Singapore record company was the local distributor for "Fantasy Gig 2002" CD,but somehow dunno why they didn't bring in the VCD and DVD version, guess its must be the copy right fees was too high. Also, the pirated DVD version does not include the duet of "Jue Dai Fang Hua"but HK version hv it.

ones that are easy to find are anita's 2002 fantasy gig, and anita's 1995 concert, anita's 1990 concert was out but it's a bit hard to find - i believe some people are selling this one at e-bay, i don't believe that her 1986 concert was released before but i think i heard someone on this forum has it on video tape, her 1987 was released a long time ago but it's very rare which i have no luck finding except for the cds, her 1991-2, and 1999 were never released! and i believe that her 2003 classic moment is releasing next month or so.

so sorry for 'mia' for so long. was so busy after the cny of 5 days' break..

anyway thanz for all the feedback given 'ere. i think i roughly know where n how to get it.

thanks especially to Ml and also e-spy (BB)

i am still working very bzly. will only have time to search for it this weekend.

ML,

The VCD at the price of RM110 is read as Anita's Classic Concert. It was an imported and the only piece sold at that time when i w as in Speedy Mines. the cover was same as the poster used for Anita's final concert. i wasn't sure if that was the last concert. coz i dun read chinese and that it was pricey,i asked the sales assistant if it was the last concert. but she told me no!

is the latest concert under EMI label? any idea?

anyway, i just can't wait to get the GIG VCD.

well i hv bought 90 & 95. In Msia, it's quite easy to get two of these concert. so it's quite strange for me to read some comments posted here that it's hard to find it...

u got urs yet ML? i think i will be coming to SG dis april. where u stay? hope to yum cha wif u if it's possible!

Hi EK: Talking about Speedy Mines, I've some doubt on its copyrights of most of the CDs/VCDs because I happened to buy some movie videos long long time ago and was not happy with its poor quality as it sounded and seemed like a duplicate from the original copy. I may be wrong...... Hope that you'll find the quality good. I'm longing to buy original copies of Anita's movies in Cantonese Version in Malaysia but couldn't bring in to Singapore (need to go through Singapore Board of Censorship). Will buy them and copy into my notebook before returning to Singapore.

nowadays we ought to b very careful in view that these people are getting very tricky. i saw one n nearly paying RM110 (about SGD55) for a VCD i thought and perceived to be anita's last concert. the cover they used for the vcd is very misleading for us to think indeed it's the last concert of hers...
