I have a date with spring was sung by an artist called Lau Nga Lai. I don't know her english name (alice lau?). Her voice is also low, but of course, it cannot be compared with Ah Mui's. Nevertheless, it sounds similar because nice voices like hers and Anita's are so rare in HK where every artist sounds like a screaming chicken. |

Hey, Piccolo! Sorry that I didn't see you when you left the message here. How are you doing? If you miss Mui, why not drop by more often? I miss you too, and miss your jokes and your profound knowledge in many things, especially your EGG Thesis. I'm so sorry that all our messages were cleared away automatically as our former package was only limited to 250 messages, I didn't know it would be cleared away without being notifieded. Anyway....memory still here... Remember you were the Master-in-charge of this Forum? Want to resume the post, so that I can take a break. Anyway, really hope everything is fine with you. BTW, that song belonged to Alice Lau. She is a good singer, not an idol singer. Hope you will see my message here! Cheers! |

Hi Woodstock, Mind telling us the background and story behind how these website and forum came about? Give me at least some inspiration for kind deeds you and Snoopy have done for Anita. Give us international fans chances to be more appreciative of this forum and how to continue to maintain harmony and make it a lovely place all the time. I can say this forum is something a special gift that we cannot take it for granted. I've seen other forums and I couldn't help much not to be felt lucky we have such a good forum with good fans here. |
|
Woodstock IP: 218.103.248.241 May 5th, 2004 - 6:07 AM |
Jason: I haven¡¦t forgot about your request. But I was thinking if it is more appropriate for Snoopy to talk about it. However, it seems that she is still too tired up with her work, so instead of keep you waiting, I will say something here. She can always add supplement later as she wishes. I persuaded her to set up the website as none of the website was set up by Malaysian fans at that time, but she talked me to do the translation for her. We know Mui got lots of fans all over the world, and many of them don¡¦t know English, so they were deprived of updated information on her in detail. Finally we decided to make it bilingual, because we hope fans can improve in whatever language they are inadequate in. Also our initial goal, as you can see in the introduction of the index page of mui-mui.org, we wish this website to be more educational; we wish readers can benefit in many other general everyday life knowledge besides just news on Mui. However, so far we don¡¦t have time to go to that area in great extent. Before the demise of Mui, we didn¡¦t have too many readers. But once she passed away, our visitors suddenly jumped to the highest might be 5,000 per day, and an average of 3,000up during the first month of her demise. We had to keep on buying bandwidth for our two paid websites almost every other day, at the worse point even daily. All of a sudden, seemingly her demise awakened the hidden love that many overseas fans buried deep down in their hearts, they suddenly became frenzy in searching for her news. (I think among all the visitors, some were just curious.) But, our bandwidth burden was aggravated as all the Hong Kong or other Chinese readers went to our website too, because a few main websites in Chinese stopped operating due to their grief for Mui, or over usage of bandwidth. We felt the main purpose for a website for Mui is to bring updated news to fans. Her demise was really a most important news to all her fans, how could we abandon our website at such a critical moment? And this was the least and only thing we could do for Mui. So we kept it going. In addition Snoopy even set up a new paid ¡§forum¡¨ for readers to leave memorial words to Mui. In order to accommodate more messages, the existing Anita Mui Forum was upgraded to paid forum at that time too, because we felt that it was the moment many fans might need to pour out their grief or to share their feelings with other fans, as they had no one to talk to among their own living circle. I might as well take this opportunity to apologize to you if you encountered difficulty in getting into any of our websites during the critical moment. It was really a bit out of our control and the predicament was unforeseeable. Never thought Mui would leave us that soon! About the present forum, it you enjoy it and if you think it is successful, I truly believe you should not thank me or Snoopy, the success should be attributed to all the readers and participants of this forum. A forum actually reflects the education, the etiquette, the attitude, the interest, the thinking, the culture¡K of the participants. A forum is just like a piece of empty land Snoopy provides us with, what kinds of flowers or structures you want to invest on this piece of land, all up to you. Whether you want to turn it to a swampy wasteland, or you want to protest it from unwelcome trespassers, all up to you too. I¡¦m glad to see the unity among fans in this forum. As June mentioned we are here ¡§ because of our Love for Anita¡K may we always unite and work together to be able to achieve our common goal.¡¨ I noticed participants of this forum, come and go, depending on their own studying or working schedule. Last year Piccolo was very active here, contributing to lots of topics in discussion with me or providing jokes for us. Now we have another group of contributors. But this forum is for all Mui fans, if you have time just drop by to say hello to us. Remind you, Mui Fans, are always welcome to share your thoughts or feelings here, as long as you keep in mind that you have to respect this forum, and respect other readers. Last but not least, both Snoopy and I appreciate your support, and we wish you to enjoy this website and forum, with continuous blessings from Anita Mui; health, peace and happiness of our life, and we hope, with Mui Spirit we all strive to be a better person positively! Finally, a big hug for Snoopy for providing this website and forum for us all! |

Hi Woodstock, What a coincidence! I came to write & you replied to my previous request almost at the same time. Words cannot express my gratitude and appreciation to both Snoopy & you. You know when we know the background and history, we love the website & forum more & more. Just like when we know Anita's background & past, we love & love her more. Let me tell you why I love this forum very much. It is because of your participation that gives us chances to know Anita much better. Your opinions, your insights & your perspectives give us positive meanings. Without your participation, there will not be unity and harmony among fans. I have made comparison with other forums and that's why I can be so confident to conclude here. My I |

[-------] Without Snoopy, we cannot have this website and forum. Without Woodstock, the website and forum may just be a white elephant. Without active-conversational readers like Dana, there isn't an active conversation going on interesting topics on Anita that keep readers coming back for more. Without poets like Angel, there isn't a more better way in expressing our loves for Anita in such beautiful and well-explained poems. Without die-hard loyal fans like June and Audrey, Anita's score will not rise that high. Without generous fans like Rowena, there will not be much ground in sharing with fans for audio and video clips on Anita. Without supports and loves from all fans, this forum will be redundant and there isn't a hope to spread love for Anita at an international level. Lastly, without me, there aren't sumptuous meals served nor unlimited pampers showered to all die-hard fans here. I just |

Aiya, all of you are doing charity or what, giving so much compliment to each other and to me and Snoopy Jason: You are so nice all the time, thanks for your heart and flowers. Are you influenced by Angel, trying to write poem too? well done! Both Snoopy and me like to keep ourselves in low profile, so many don't really know who we are unless very close fan-friends. So most probably Snoopy won't like to tell other fans about our background, or background of our website. But thanks for your suggestion and will consider it maybe later. KC: the funding of our website and forum comes from Snoopy's pay check. Snoopy is in Malaysia and I'm in HK. |

To Dana regardigng Momoe
Yamaguchi HI Dana, http://marchive.hp.infoseek.co.jp/ This is one of Momoe's fan HPs. The site does not have many pictures of Momoe because the webmaster avoids any kind of copyright ploblems. But you can go to Discograpy section, and qlick "Single" or "Album." You can see the cover of Momoe's records/CDs. I am a big fan of Momoe, so when I see Anita's old video clips (from around 1984 and 1985), I am very surprised and delighted that she really looked like Momoe at that time. If you are curious, Momoe started her career at fourteen after she passed the singing contest in TV program called STAR IS BORN! and Sony scouted her at that time (in the summer of 1972). Her debut was the May in the following year and she retired in October 1980. She was longing for a normal family, which means there are parents and children, as she was a love child. I mean her mother was a mistress. As soon as her singing career started, she also acted in TV drama series and movies. One of her TV series, AKAI GIWAKU (Anita sang the theme song. That is RED WONDER) became a phenomenon in Japan, and she and co-star Tomokazu Miura were considered the best couple. They acted together in RED SENSATION (Anita also sang the theme song), twelve movies and commercials. They got married in 1980. Since then, Momoe keeps a low profile life despite of the fact that her songs are still popular after 24 years of her retirement. Anita covered altogether, I think, 7 Momoe¡¦s songs such as MAN JU SHA KA, WALK MY ROAD ALONE, and ICY MOUNTAIN VOLCANO. Leslie Cheung¡¦s signature song WIND CONTINUE TO BLOW is also originally Momoe Yamaguchi¡¦s. I hope this will help you. |

AT: Thanks for detailed information on Momoe Yamaguchi. In addtion to the 3 songs you mentioned, another most famous classic song [Walk my road alone ] of Mui is Momoe's too. BTW, actually I like Mayumi Itsuwa even more than Momoe because of her low voice, more close to Mui, so quite a few songs of Paula Tsui are from Mayumi's original collection. |

Hi! AT. Thank you so much! Ive checked out the link and YES!..they do look alike in appearance as well as career wise. Wow! if not for your info, I wouldnt know those songs originated from Momoe. 'Man Ju Sha Ka'& 'Wind Continue To Blow' are two of my favourites. Did Anita sang the theme song in Japanese? How I wish I can get to hear them. I saw Momoe's wedding pictures, they are a lovely pair. Actually, I have a great love for Japanese songs esp. those classical ones. My knowledge of Japanese is limited and I couldnt tell you the titles of the songs/sung by whom, which is a great disappointment for me. Knowing Anitas best loved country is Japan, I can understand why she insisted having those beautiful pictures taken in Japan for 'HOMW' when she knew her days are numbered. She had truly accomplished her 2 greatest wish before her death. AT, why not join us in 'HOMW' thread, if possible give us a further insight of your glorious encounters w/Anita. I know all of us will be delighted. Please? Btw, I saw the part with the aged Yoshiko in Shibuya w/the monkey on her shoulder in 'Kawashima Yoshiko'. She did not die. I bought the vcd in Australia. I love this movie too, where we can see how selfish/heartless she can be. It was a very demanding role for her but she handled it magnificently and she certaintly looked handsome in man's clothes. |

Hi!!! I would just like to thank AT for giving us a background of Momoe's life and career....in a way, Anita and Momoe certainly have similarities career-wise and looks. Walk my road alone is one of my favorite songs of Anita, that's why I'm happy to know from here about it's origin.... |

Hi Jack, That was the aged Yoshiko Kawashima with a monky on her shoulder. Trust me. I compared my old DVD to new (Fourtune Star/Deltamac version) VCD. When I saw the movie at the HKIFF in April, I was surprised to see that ending. I do not know why it was cut off in old versions (Mei Ah and Universe versions). |

Hi and good day to all!!! Jack I also saw the uncut version and she was the one that has the monkey on top of her shoulder, in short, she did not die. By the way, Jack thank you for the added info you gave about the real Yoshiko, that she died because she was assasinated... |

Sorry, I prefer to remain a reader. But I couldn't help not to respond to Leelee's statement. Leelee, I'm not attacking neither am I angry at you. I just want to correct your statement from my point of view. If all people have the same thinking as you and think that past-time old artistes are older people's favorite, then Anita's legacy can not last long. Younger generation would find it a shame or the 'out' thing to tell his/her friends, relatives and colleagues Anita is his/her favorite artiste. |

Hi Woodstock, other Momoe Yamaguchi¡¦s songs that Anita sang were DAY AND NIGHT RMEMBER ME¡@(¤é©]Ãh©À§Ú)¡@and NO NEED TO THINK ABOUT ME ¡]¤£¥²·Q§Ú¡^from her first album. I did not know about Paula Tsui covered Mayumi Itsuwa¡¦s songs while my interest of songs is mainly Anita¡¦s. I know Itsuwa¡¦s songs have dramatic melodies that attract to some singers but I do not like some of the original lyrics, especially TO MY LOVER. It does not make a sense. Talking about lyrics, I dislike original one of WALK MY ROAD ALONE, so I like Anita¡¦s version. It is very funny to say this because I do not understand the meanings of Anita¡¦s songs, either, but I can feel Anita¡¦s emotion. And I know you do not hear lyrics. By the way, I want to know if Anita¡¦s RED WONDER and RED SENSATION were overlapped the program when it was on the air. I mean the viewers heard the theme song by Anita when they watched the program? I have other question. Anita was invited a concert in Soul Olympic in 1988. Do you know anything about it? I know you were not in Hong Kong at that time but do you have a friend who knows it? Hi Dana, thank you for reading my past postings. I enjoy reading HOMW thread or any other threads very much. But my English is limited as you know. It takes a long time to write it down. It is better to spend time to reading all postings. Like I said before, I treasured the book HEART OF MODERN WOMAN because I consider this is Anita¡¦s will (from page 4 to 12) to us. And I was touched and my heart was aching to see three pictures in the book. Those were that Anita was feeding turtles on the floor. She looked so happy. The pictures show her love, tenderness and joyfulness. But what I felt the most was her loneliness. I almost cry. Now I know there was a strong connection between Anita and Japan. Since she was participated the Tokyo International Music Festival in 1983, she visited Japan many times for business and private purpose. I am asking friends in Japan about the Japanese variety TV program that Anita was teaching Cantonese for 3 months. So far, I was not confirmed the exact year she did it. Not many people remembered it. And I do not easily trust any articles in Asia. As for her Japanese, Anita sang very well in Japanese. I did not know she spoke Japanese. When she went to Kyoto for commercial filming, it was freezing cold. Unusually too cold. Something happened on the way to Kyoto or in those cold days there to Anita. She was so weak on the last day in Kyoto. If she did not go to Kyoto, is she still alive? Dana, are you living in Australia? Wow, it must be difficult to get Anita¡¦s CD/VCD/DVDs. I am glad you like Japanese songs. In early 80¡¦s in Hong Kong not only Anita and Leslie but also many singers covered Japanese songs. Hi June, you are very kind person. |
|
Woodstock IP: 218.103.196.49 May 14th, 2004 - 5:49 AM |
Hello, AT: I have the The Legendary Collection by Sony, both of Itsuwa and Yamaguchi, but as you remember I don¡¦t listen to lyrics, also I don¡¦t understand Japanese, but I do like Japanese songs. Paula sang quite a few of Itsuwa¡¦s song, even Alan Tam. You are right, Anita sang her songs with such emotion, we can easily moved by her voice. About the 2 programs when they were played on HK TV, the theme songs of Anita were played at the same time, so audience could hear her singing at the same time when they were watching the program. In HK, the programs were named after the names of the songs, so one is Red Wonder, the other Red Sensation. About the Soul Olympic in 1988, I know Anita Mui was invited to the opening of the Game, and she sang the opening song. I just checked with one fan, she could not remember what other song Anita performed, but Anita was so involved in performing, she even took off her skirt while singing¡K.hahaha¡K¡K..but she got pants underneath. I will check with another fan after she returns from her trip. If I have any further news will let you know later. Remember you mentioned you didn¡¦t enjoy Justice My Foot too well, as you don¡¦t understand why the dialogue so funny.? This has to do with the humor of different places or countries, different culture has different humors. In that movie, they used a lot of local humor and very colloquial language, so it is quite difficult for other people who are not Cantonese to understand, this is why you don¡¦t feel the dialogue funny. This is also the reason why comedy of a certain country is not appealing to all nations, difficult for comedian to win Oscar Award, while melodramas or tragedies is more an universal language than comedies. About the Japanese program, in one Chinese magazine it was said Mui went to Japan to be in charge of this program in 1989, but as you said those magazines could not be trusted. AT, have you read the Japanese Magazine ¡V Pop Asia, I just uploaded at this website last night? All in Japanese, I can¡¦t understand, please take a look, see if you find any information on that. You are right, Anita got so sick after she went to Kyoto. Did you see the VCD that came with the Book? She looked as 2 completely different persons on the day she left HK airport from the day she arrived at HK airport. My heart ached when saw her on TV news on her arrival, she was so weak and talked with no energy at all¡K.sigh¡K¡K¡KIf she didn¡¦t go, she might not leave so soon. But, I think, if she didn¡¦t go to Kyoto, then she would go to Beijing for the movie, cold weather too. So either trip would shorten her life¡K¡Kto make myself feel better, I would tell myself that is fate, time for her to end the suffering in this world, and to go to a better place of peace and happiness. |

Hi! AT, Im not residing in Australia at this moment. I bought the vcd when I was back home for the holidays. It is not too difficult to get those HK cds/vcds/dvds in Australia. There are a few Chinese shops in Sydney's chinatown and they have direct dealings with HK & China. I usually go to the one in Sussex street where they have a bigger display. Yes, AT most of us still have that special feeling whenever we think of Anita. Even surrounded with so many friends I do think she is a very lonely woman but in a way as Woodstock said she is a True buddhist, Im sure shes at peace w/herself and found her true happiness. |

Hi Woodstock, Thank you for telling me Anita in Seoul and TV series¡¦ theme songs. Was she performed at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Game in 1988? Or was it the night before concert? Wow, she took off the skirt while singing? Like at the Golden Needle Award in 1999? Did she sing with other guests? Please inform me when you know more detail. I wish I could see it. Regarding Japanese magazine POP ASIA articles, they were well written memorial features about Anita Mui. [She was a symbol of Hong Kong.] The articles were divided to two pages for each her singing and acting careers, one page for each 10 best albums and 10 best movies, and the last page for filmography and discography. The writers are very knowledgeable about Canto-pops and Hong Kong movies. Two writers are my friends and in a way sifu about Hong Kong. (You saw one of them at the 100 days ritual.) No mention about Japanese program. Despite the fact that Anita had a strong connection with Japan, she was not so popular. Only Hong Kong movie fans knew her as a co-star of Jackie Chen, Chow Yun Fat, Leslie Cheung, Jet Li and Andy Lau. Many do not know she started as singer. I used be one of them. There are small memorial article in other paper. I think their episodes with her were interesting. I will try my best to translate them. By the way, all articles begin how they were shocked by the new of Anita¡¦s demise including POP ASIA. This is written by a man who wrote several books about Hong Kong movies. [I was not so close to Anita Mui personally but I saw her several times. At first, like Leslie Cheung, I was introduced her by Florence Chan. I think that was around her first concert. Since then I have seen her concerts many times because I and my wife happened to be friend Katy Chan for a long time who was produced Anita¡¦s concerts. I remembered that Anita saw and wanted a jewel accessory that my wife made for Katy. In the end Katy gave it Anita because she was so persistent. When Jackie Chan was recording a song, Anita came with him. I saw her very sincere as an artist. The last time I saw her was that at backstage of Yumiko Matsutoya¡¦s Hong Kong concert tow years ago. We talked about her last film, JULY RHAPSODY¡@¨k¤H¥|¤Q. Whenever I saw her, she was very charming and cute, and care for other people. I felt she was somehow lonely person¡K..] The other is written by a woman distributor of some of Wong Kar Wai films. [The first time I recognized Anita Mui was ROUGE and as a singer, it was the theme song of DAYS OF BEING WILD¡@ªü¸¥¿¶Ç. ¡KI saw Anita several times. My impression about her was Big Sister with tough personality. One day during Chinese New Year holidays, I had a date with Carina Lau and her friends in Shinjuku, Tokyo. She brought Anita with other friends. No one noticed them. Then we started to play a Hong Kong game (I think that was the game Chow Yun Fat did in the movie 100 WAYS TO MURDER YOUR WIFE ±þ©d¢±¤H²Õ ) in a hip bar. Anita was so into the game. She looked like a boy and had glittering aura. I thought she was cute in real life and this was her true persona to show only if she was with her close friends. After that she helped us to cover her concerts and come to our HK movie fans party as a guest in Hong Kong.] I like reading Anita¡¦s old interviews. Please keep uploading. |

Sorry, tht was a bad joke. I'm still welcomed to forum rite?! I like Miho Nakayama... not for her singing but there's something 'bout her tht attracted me to her. Like Mui, she's a big sis in e showbiz, a fine actress & extremely feminine. |

AT: Thanks so much for translating those articles for us. I will copy them to the website tomorrow. Yep, Mui actually was very playful, that's why I like to go to her birthday party. She really played and joked around happily with her fans, because there was no media around. But if with friends, I bet she would let go completely. About Soul Olympic, The fan I talked to told me it was not the opening show Mui performed, it was at the gala show before the opening ceremony. Also it was the sexy wide type, not as lady-like as in the Gold Needle Award. Anyway, I will keep on enquiring around if anyone remembers. |

Hi everyone, I am glad you like to know Anita¡¦s playful side. Woodstock, I have to make sure. I extracted those article from »´ä¹q¼v³q«H¡@#160 not POP ASIA. The first writer is Eiji Ogura and the second one is Hiroko Shinohara. To tell you the truth, there was one big article about Anita by Noriko Serada. She is a film critic and translator living in Hong Kong. In her article, she wrote: [After I moved to Hong Kong in 1989, one day, my friend who is now a costume designer for films took me a big gorgeous house. That was Anita Mui¡¦s house. There were many people as if it were their own house although Anita was not at home. I was very uncomfortable the situation. So as soon as Anita came back, I greeted her and left. Several days later, her home was burglarized. Then there were unpleasant things happened around her one after another. I could not see her just an artist. ¡K¡K I near-missed her over her last work Modern Beauty Saloon commercial. One ad company called me, ¡§Anita wants to go to shoot CF in Okinawa for the saloon. Since you know Okinawa very well, will you help us?¡¨ I instantly imagined Anita in a spiritual place called ??? would be very good. ¡K As you know, that was not realized. But if she went to Okinawa instead of Kyoto, I am sure, she would have had a sort of spiritual cleansing experience¡K.] Woodstock, at that time, not only Anita but other stars had problems, didn¡¦t they? Why Anita was suffered so much? Maybe that was also fate. The more you told me about the Gala party in Seoul in 1988, the more I want to see it. I hope someone recorded it, so that I can see it some day. Did she sing in Korean? Angel, yes, Anita released two single records in Japan in 1983. They are ¥æ¥X§Úªº¤ß, ¤ß¶Å, ¤£«H·R¦³¸o¡@and ¤£³\¦A¦^ÀY. A few months ago, I think Timothy gave us the site that you could listen to them. I am not sure the site is still there, though. I also heard that there a duet with Jackie Chan called ARASHI NI NARE in Japanese. The Cantonese title is «eºø¤d¹M and I saw them singing Cantonese version in an old program. I think her Japanese was better than Jackie. One of my friends told me that Anita could speak short sentence/phrase in Japanese. I understand what you wrote in other thread. Me too, even if I could not see her, knowing that I share the same place with her made me happy. Then I was lucky than you, because of my job I could get a press pass to cover the Hong Kong Film Award ceremony. Every time she was there, media swarmed her and no place for me to squeeze in. I could not take a picture but I was happy as she was there. |

AT: thank you very much for detailed information on Anita with her friends. I will try to arrange them properly and then upload to the website. In the Chinese article it was mentioned that her jewelry was missing after people brought strangers, I mean friend's friends into her house, even her own room. It was pretty bad, really. Anita went through more pressure than anyone else in the circle, it is not easy for her to maintain her Big Sister status, and remain on the top in the music industry throughout her career about 21 years. Imagine all by herself, as a woman, without any really close friends or relatives to help, also in such a complicated environment. One of the causes of cancer is pressure and suppressed emotion. Of course fate is not treating her too good either. But we can only say you can have one thing, you might not have another thing. What else can we say? I don't think she sang in Korean. I was really wondering if it was played on HK TV, because the fan I asked is a die hard fan, she only remembered she read information in the newspaper. I asked a few other fans, all said they don't remember. Anyway, will keep an eye for you. |

Hi Woodstock, Anita had to go through so many things by herself and maintained her status and artistic standard at the same time. I really respect her. Being in show business and successful is very difficult although people tend to see only brighter side. I know this because I have been interviewed many stars. I am writing a book about Brigitte Lin Ching Hsia (Lam Ching Ha) for more than seven years. Well, I finished writing it long ago and now it should be revising process but it is just collecting dust. I am worn out to obtain copyrights from film companies as well as getting a publisher. You are right. Some big companies only concerned about money and charged me a lot of money for one picture while older companies gave me free of charge in honor to Brigitte. My main reason I wrote a book is that there is no informative and wonderful bilingual or English website about her like yours for Anita, I just wanted to share my information. When I was reading Anita¡¦s interviews, I found many similarities between them. Marriage has to be once in a life time. They would like to be a bird in next life because it seems to have freedom. They are late bloomer. When they were early teens, they were short and later grew taller. They are interested in psychology (I think they need it to survive in such a harsh business). Media attacked them and there were a lot of unpleasant rumors. They did want not protest because it might get more attention, so just let it go. Both of them took a break in their twenties. Their good friend was Leslie Cheung and a hairstylist was Kim Robinson. They were very handsome in cross dressing. I am sure that all successful stars have similar kind of wisdom to be what they are. For Anita¡¦s case, she was all by herself. Brigitte had a normal life until seventeen and two close friends from high school. That was a big difference. Anita said Eddie Lau was her close friend. But I think Eddie treated Anita as a sister forever, not a friend on equal level. In his mind he was superior to Anita all the time. That was why he did know like her became cleverer. What I want to say is that reading old interviews and articles is very interesting. I can be a detective to solve a mystery. I know I had to be very careful. I should not believe blindly what I read and what was written. And also I know nobody wants to tell the whole true story when he or she knows it is going to be in public. Anita was straightforward and not telling a lie but that did not mean she talked entirely truth. Everybody has some secrets. I want to know more about Anita Mui. This site and Woodstock help me a lot. Thank you very much. I really do not want to admire and respect Anita blindly. I am learning something from Anita as a decent human being who happened to be the best performer in East. As for Seoul in 1988, it is possible that only news footage about it was broadcast in Hong Kong. |

AT: I like your message of yesterday so much, because that is exactly how I see things about entertainment circle, but you even have deeper insight as you have contact with people of that circle, while what I know is by my own observation through readings or a few things my friend told me about that circle or that big company. But if we can look at Mui just as a normal human being, actually not really difficult to know the hardship she has gone through, provided you have a mature and realistic way of thinking, especially we are of the same sex, female. I¡¦m a quite snobbish type of person, never really would like a person to such a degree, but I have to admit that I do like her a lot and respect her a lot, as a professional of another professional. I have also learned lots of things from her for our life, as you said. Mui had to work twice harder or even than other artistes in the circle for recognition because of her family background, that had a great impact on her character, and she even admitted she had inferiority complex, except on the stage. If she had been treated fairly by society, how would she feel inferior? She did so much charity and contributed so much to the society, but she never got any recognition from the government, not even be nominated as one of the 10 Best Young Persons that are being elected annually, while other artistes hardly do anything, but they were all honored with that title. Than last year, she did so much for the SARS, in July, I think other people worked or died for SAR got medals from the government, but not Mui. I really feel sorry for all these. Mui is a human, you think she doesn¡¦t know the reason behind? She never really gets the respect that she deserves. AT, you are so right, many things she can¡¦t talk about, not she wants to lie to others, but there are private things and thoughts, not necessary to make public especially she is an artiste and an idol of many young people. She had to maintain her image. Also as you said no use to protest. Personally I feel she is too much ¡§deep rooted¡¨ in that ¡§unhealthy¡¨ entertainment circle. If she has some good friends from other fields, as Brigitte with 2 close friends from high school, she might able to have a balance. At least could have a mental break and be away from pressure. Just like Maggie Cheung, after work, she has her own life, while Mui in her private life, still surrounded by those so-called friends from her circle. You know they are so inconsiderate, or maybe ignorant. When Mui was already sick with cancer, they smoked, non-stop, while sitting beside her at the dinner table during her birthday party. I fully agreed to what you said about Eddie Lau. I was shocked by his comment when he mentioned he liked the young Mui more and didn¡¦t like the present Mui as she could read people¡¦s mind now. He should feel happy for her, as at least she tried to protect herself now. Talking about this guy, I¡¦m really very disappointed in him, maybe I thought too high of him taking him as one of those who really took good care of Mui. He is selfish in a way, but too much. By his own writing, he is supposed to be the one who knows Mui¡¦s situation best, how weak she was. But then, how could he design the wedding gown that is more than 80 lbs for Mui to wear, while she herself might be only weigh 80-90lb? I know the answer. But rather not say it here Hummmm¡K¡Kthis seems to be another ¡§grumbling¡¨ day of mine¡K¡K AT, please don¡¦t give up on your book on Brigitte since you have already finished writing. You must try hard for the copyrights, I think publisher will be easier. To be persistent, as Mui told us, then you will have the goal achieved. I will be your reader, I order one now. Big deal¡K¡K Would you consider to write a book for Mui? But better not, I guess more trouble to get copyrights, right? BTW, Brigitte, in a way, is more fortunate than Mui in many ways. At least, she has a very happy marriage now. Also in case you need old pictures of any star, I know a shop that sells all old pictures, that is the company that published the magazine I uploaded just a few days ago. The boss told me even Mui went to his shop to buy pictures of ¦è«°¨q¾ðin her early day. Since there are still so many English readers interested in Mui, I will keep on doing the translation of her past interview. But do be patient, as it takes time. Also it is my personal style of translation, I like to stick to the original context, I won¡¦t add ¡§salt or sugar or vinegar¡¨, no fabrication or personal ideas. BTW, AT, is your friend Noriko in HK, has leg injury recently and resting at home now? Have a nice day! |

Angel: as you know I didn't want to talk about it, someone might come up and attack me again. But since AT mentioned about him, also I have been watching the concert VCD, you know it really bothered me. I was at the first show too. Actually Mui started the concert by singing the song ¹Úùئ@¾K, she even did the original dance of this song on floor. But when she finished, she was so out of breath. Then in the shows following, she didn't perform the original dance anymore . I don't mean I want Mui to do more dances (persoanlly I prefer her just to sit there and sing) but it is just not appropriate to give her extra burden since she was so weak already, she could not even attend the original scheduled rehearsal, not able to eat well during the concert and even had fever for a few days. Watching the concert, I really feel so bad that a sick person has to entertain us. But in a way I feel happy for her that she had her wish fulfilled. Also she was so brilliant that only in this way, by a concert , she could say good bye to all the fans, those HK people who cared about her and all her friends of the entertainment circle. She is always a inspiration in a way |

Woodstock: I am very sorry that my posting cause you grumbling again. But I totally agree with you, especially about a red costume. That was a proof of being INCONSIDERATE. If he was thoughtful, he could not design it with heavy material. Anita¡¦s so-called friends are also inconsiderate (please read Ming Pao Weekly #1699). She did not have a role model in her life, so she became a role model. She was surrounded by inconsiderate people, so she became so considerate to others. She did not get a love she hungered for, so she knew how to give a love. I have no desire to write a book about Anita because I do not have enough knowledge about her. I just wrote an article to Momoe Yamaguchi¡¦ s HP. This is my way of saying thank Anita. And I think that is the most appropriate place. In the article I wrote: [Anita lives as twice speed as normal. Her life may be short, but her lifetime achievement is worth more than 40 years. People are talking about how long and how many memorial programs are broadcasted, how many records she sold, what kind of awards and how many times she got and so on. But the numbers are not important. Her true achievement is not visible. They are her conveying heart of songs, her tenderness and love, her courage and righteousness, her sincerity and responsibility, her loyalty and kind-heart, her endurance and endeavor, her high-standard and persistence, and her fighting spirit to any difficulty.(Sorry for my bad translation)] Yes, her two wishes (say goodbye to her friends and fans and wearing a wedding gown) were fulfilled in the most memorable way. She left us physically but her inspiration remains us all the time. Even though Anita was far from best condition, she sang better than most singers today. Amazing! Can I ask a request for an article translation? Could you translate or write summary of what Florence Chan wrote for Ming Pao Weekly (#1693, 1694, 1695, 1700 ) in 2001? No, I do not know Noriko got a leg injury. I have not contacted her a long time. How did you know it? Where is the picture shop? Is it in North Point? When I go to Hong Kong next time, I want to go. |

AT: I should thank you for giving me the chance to grumble I really like your way of writing (style of critics), concise and up to point. Your article about Mui in Momoe's HP, though not many words, already expressed million of words I want to say. Thank you very much! About the Mingpao articles, they were about early days of Mui when Florence was still working with CA as managress of Mui and Leslie. I will translate them, no problem. About Noriko, a friend read the quotes of Noriko I uploaded at the website. And she got a Japanese neighbour named Noriko, their sons are play mates. So my friend is wondering if this is the same Noriko. About the shop, you are right it is always in North Point. But at different locations. Now located in a less popular commercial building. If you like to go next time in HK, please let me know, will check for you if it is still at the same building. |

June, I have not seen VCDs yet because my order has not arrived. It is on the way. Now they will release with guests version. I hope they will release other her concerts soon or in the future. And I am casting votes as much as I can. Do not worry. Woodstock, if Noriko you are talking about lives in ¨F¥Ð, she is the one. What a small world. By the way, I should have asked you to correct my bad translation when you upload them. I am soooo embarrassed. It is happy to know Anita have talked Momoe on phone. And thank you for a new article translation. |

Jack: exactly, Mui treated Leslie as one of her family, in Mingpao #1796, she talked again about their sisterly/brotherly relationship. They both together worked from scratch to their present prestigeous status. During early days, when they were on singing tour, they helped each other and supported each other, not only physically but spiritually too. At bottom of her heart, she knew who really loves her most. When she was with Gor Gor, you will see how Mui acted like a little sister holding his arm intimately, and Gor Gor would hold her hand just like tugging a little sister along when there were crowds. Very touching. So Gor Gor's death was really a devastating blow to Mui. Remember she once even jokingly asked Gor Gor to marry her if she still could not get married before she died. She would never imagine Gor Gor would terminate his life like that and left before her. Otherwise I really believe Gor Gor would grant her the wish, on the stage. Actually, Mui set very low standard for her friend, she said anyone who didn't kick her when she was in trouble, she would already regard that one as a friend. But she mentioned in her past interview she divided her friends into 3 kinds. Personally I believe any friendship with no money involved would be more sincere and pure. Mui is a very considerate and understanding person, she knows "people have to eat too". Then I think those, to whom Mui gave a job, didn't put her interest on the top of the priority list, instead still taking advantage of her should really ask themselves whether they have any conscience at all. |

I admired BrigitteLin too. Shes great in PekingOperaBlue. I would say Anita looked more handsome as a guy maybe beacuse BL's features are more feminine. Anita, as always looked great in those army uniforms/those male chinese traditional wear w/the small tiny hat. What do you call those,Woodstock? Right again, Woodstock, Leslie & Anita are inseparable. How I often wished they are a couple! |

Jack, Dana, Woodstock, I agree about Leslie and Anita. They were soul mate. They got through many hardships together. I saw many video clips in other sites. They were a perfect match. In the last day the encore of Fantasy Gig 2002 concert I think they did not do rehearsal but they were so good. When Anita passed away, I believed that Leslie took her with him, so that she would not have pain anymore. I hope they are having a good time now. |
