Hi Rowena,

I also experienced problem downloading. I was authorized for mui concert in April and mui concert 2 last week.

For both link, I was experiencing problem downloading. I only managed to download one song. The message said that I was not authorized to do it.

It seems that many people are experiencing the same problems. Well, I'll try again. Thanks.

Re: '99 Concert

Over 2 days I was able to get all except #21 and 22, there I still get the unable to download/not available/try later message. I feel when watching it that I'm at home and my friend is at the concert sending it to me over the mobile phone! I'm so glad to have it though. If you can plug your computer into a good stereo you will find that the low bass has somehow made it through the Windows Media compression relatively undamaged and gives the performance a sense of space and reality, a happy surprise. Some day I will write for pages & pages about how much I like Anita's bass players.

I'm really curious about one thing: How many of you get the musical joke in track 3 which is "Sook Nui" (Virgin)(?) Somebody took the intro from the Madonna song "Papa Don't Preach" and made it the intro and A section of Sook Nui, or, for you math students out there, "mapped" Sook Nui onto Papa Don't Preach for the first verse. Does anyone else notice this, or is it like Stephen Chow humor that only makes sense in Cantonese? The joke might even go back further, on the CD version of Sook Nui, Mui begins with a wild laugh, just like the laugh Madonna starts the song "Angel" with, from the "Like A Virgin" album. Who thinks up this stuff? Amazing!

Woodstock where was the '99 concert held??? Cause it seems she's so intimate with the audience and I remember you telling us that you get to shake hands with Anita here a lot of times, which I saw on the video clips, she's been throwing her pictures? And shaking hands with the crowd while singing a medley of all her love songs...Wow!!! Were you able to catch/get a picture of her? I guess if the reception is just clear, we'll get to see you there right?

First off all, try the same password Rowena gave us for the first group, but if you can't get to the files, then you haven't applied for and received your membership yet. I was able to finally get all the files after trying many times, using my own password.

The concert is terrific! Maybe my favorite sounding band and arrangements of all the concerts. I can't wait to get it in a full fidelity version.

I have a treat tonight, I found a friend who has a working Betamax machine and I'll be able to watch the '87-'88 concert and transfer it to regular videotape.

I didn't have such luck for that concert to sit in the 1st row. I was sitting in the first row in her farewell concert in 1992.

Re: '99 Concert

My most favorite is the sequence 26-27-28, especially the Industrial/Goth music style "Breaking Ice Mountain", and the Mandarin song following. The background vocal harmony parts are delicious. Number 7-8-9 I like very much, 7 sounds like a Brazilian song, very sophisticated. The color scheme and lighting in number 14 and Anita's outfit are wonderful, and the new harmonic arrangement of 15, wow! I guess what I like most is the music is high energy with great tone and volume from the drums and bass, while being soft in the right spots so Anita can be heard, and the brilliant backup singing.

Anita looks very sophisticated and grown-up, with her short haircut, and I get an impression that she feels a bit lonely and carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders in this show, although I may be wrong because it is hard to see her face distinctly. Then, in Fantasy Gig she looks like something good has happened, she is at peace and child-like.

When I watched the '87-'88 concert I kept watching the credits all the way to the end, and they were in English (surprise!) enough to see that Ah Mui's sister Ann was listed in the background chorus! Did you know this, and did Ann sing with Anita's other shows, do you know?

my biggest regret

Hi everyone

i just watch last Anita Mui concert 2003 which is recently published. I just can't stop myself crying. I cry really, really really hard which i have not done for my whole life. Although I know Anita Mui wants all her fans to move on and be positive, I just can't do it. I am still in a process of greiving. I miss her so much.It is really painful

I have never seen her live concert which becomes my biggest regret. I am a poor person who have never able to afford to buy tickets. When I watch the dvd cd, I wonder why I was not there. If I can turn back time, I wish I were one of you guys who was screaming the lung out or holding up the banner up high, or waving the neon sticks . You know I really want to say thank to her. She has changed my life in many ways. Now, I love my family, friends or job more than ever because of her. She told us cherish everything. I have tried really hard living to fullest everyday. Thank you, Anita. Thank you for teaching me how to be a better person. i'll take my tears back, do more charitable work to continue your legacy because I don't want another regret in my life. One is enough

To Woodstock

I am wondering you do not want to correct some mistakes in the HKVP Radio article?

Her debut hit was DEBTS OF THE HEART not Homecoming.

She won Best Supporting Actress in BEHIND THE YELLOW LINE not Rumble in the Bronx.

Farewell concert was not in 1990 but in 1991-92 and she performed not 33 but 30. Not concesutive days, either.

86-87 concert was not consecutively 28 performancees.

There are other miner mistakes. Am I too nervous to set the reacord straight?

I knew some information was wrong in this article, but since it is by HKVP Radio, I was wondering if I should correct it, just as I was wondering about those foreign media articles when there was wrong information. But normally I won't correct it.

But, this is a local, and prominent radio station, (I assume this article is not by listerers) some of the errors are really unexecusable, I have corrected as you suggested.

Dear Woodstock and All,

Here are more articles from HK Vintage Pop Radio. One article is senitive and sad so please decide if you like to post it. The article is understanding Anita's Choices with Cervical Cancer by Cassie Kwok dated 5/17/04.

The second article is in Chinese however it has been translated by Teresa at HK Pop Radio dated 5/26/04.

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

Shiela: Thanks for more links, but I would not upload in our website lar.

The first one I would not post not because it was sensitive, but I feel whatever the writer said was based on her own thinking, her own speculation or things she read in other papers, totally with no proof. I have never saw any real medical reports from the doctors, and Mui herself never told us the history of her cancer herself and etc. And the reason she was seeking Chinese medical treatment at first was all explained clearly by hersefl in the book "Heart of Modern Woman"....not as those people said she wanted to have children blar blar....just their own assuption.

This writer really had to do more research before she can convince me to believe whatever she said. Even her describing about how long Ann Mui suffered from her uterus cancer was so doubtful. 15 years? How could she had her 2 sons then?

Do you know one of the causes of cervical cancer could be too early sexual relation or too frequent sex partners? Once Mui admitted she had cervical cancer, what people would think about her? She could always tell us she got whatever cancer she suffered, maybe just womb cancer, she didn't have to tell us the truth. Why she had to bear those implied humiliation inflicted on her by telling pubic the truth? Kwok questioned Mui's bravery.....humm.......I really wonder how brave Kwok is. I saw a Chinese critic review on a medical book praising Mui for being brave to admit cervical cancer, because those implied humiliations from any illness is more difficult to bear than physical pain. Just as when one suffers from aids, normal people would immediatley look at him/her differently instead of trying to understand what is the real cause and etc. So just imagine how courageous is Mui to admit she got cervical cancer.

Kowk is only using Mui to tell people to seek treatment early if one has cervical cancer. But I really don't think she should mention too many things about Mui when she has never really had proof of whatever she said about Mui. Anyway, I always have for professional ethics of media people of HK nowadays, maybe I'm bias.

About the other article, I saw in Chinese newspaper too. I didn't upload because I think people were just using Mui to promote the concert. Never heard some of those stories when Mui was alive, why not earlier or later but just when he was having the concert. Our website will definitely not be used for promoting other people, but Mui only.

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

Hi Sheila and Woodstock,

I agree with you, Woodstock.
Here is my reaction after I read Cassie Kwok’s article. I was thinking about Anita’s demise past five months. At first I had an impression that she chose a slow suicide because it is said she refused treatment. I did not want to jump to a conclusion without doing any research and that, somehow, did not fit Anita I thought I knew. But I was not a die hard Anita fan. Thanks this great website and other Anita’s sites for helping me to understand her. As a writer, I try to gather as many information as possible and to sort out what are reliable and what are not. She knew her illness around in 1999 or 2000 and got a cancer report in December of 2002. She sought out a Chinese treatment. She was devastated by Leslie’s sudden death and she devoted in producing 1:99 concert. I read Eddie Lau’s article and HEART OF MODERN WOMAN. I also saw TVB video clips which covered before and after Classic Moment Live. She did not look like a terminal cancer patient. Was she deceived all of us? My conclusion is what a noble warrior she was!

People can say anything when they know the end result. It is easy to speculate about it. But they often made a big mistake. That is their assumptions are based on their standard. They think a longer life is better than a shorter one. If Anita received proper western treatment at early stage of her illness, she would have had a longer life. Yes, that is a quite possible. However, we do not know she would be cured completely or not. Having a longer life dose not mean good, either. What if she is in and out of a hospital rest of her life. What if she cannot sing or perform as she wishes. Would she want to be like that? In fact, Anita wrote to Eddie Lau that “Life in this world is just a dream, all is fated. I only wish to be with my best friends, even it is so short, but some wonderful and glamorous time.”

I think we should remember her by how she fulfilled her life. How she became a super star, how she treated people, how she fought back all rumors, how she handled unpleasant situations, how she generous was, how she showed professionalism, how she performed the last concert, and how great artist she was, Anita left us a lot of unforgettable songs and memories. The way she lived was an inspiration. She never complain about her illness. No one can live like Anita did, especially her last year.

By the way, I read that if a woman has a sexual relationship with a promiscuous man, it may cause cervical cancer as well. I know it is true because of my friend. It is very unfortunate that cervical cancer implied being promiscuous woman.

After I read Kwok’s article, I had to read James Wong’s [Entertainment Industry’s Legendary Girl – Anita Mui] to feel good. I smiled in the middle and then cried.

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

Ive read that article, Woodstock and it is not worth mentioning. It is an insult to Anita as to what the lady was implying.[sorry Angel, June, Ill concentrate on my studies after explaining some important facts here, dont spank me, Angel ok?

The Human PapillomaVirus is responsible for at least 95% of cervical cancer. When exposed to HPV the immune system in most women prevents the virus from causing harm. But in a small number of women, the virus can live for years and eventually converts cells on the cervix into cancer cells.
These cellular changes happen very slowly. At first, the cells only show signs of a viral infection. Later they become precancerous and eventually progress to invasive cervical cancer.
Almost all women will have HPV at some point but very few will develop cervical cancer. Most HPV infections are temporary and will go away on their own. An HPV infection that does not go away over a period of years might lead to cervical cancer.
Another great factor for cervical cancer is DES-a hormone associated with developing a rare type of cervical cancer called the 'clear-cell' variety taken by the patient's mother during pregnancy.[Anita's Ma had recovered from cervical cancer at one time and taken into consideration, she had Anita in her forties]

Im sure by now Ive made it clear to all, that cervical cancer patients does not simply means they are promiscuous women.

Back to my studies, Woodstock
Sheila

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

C'mon gals, no need to get so upset. We're in 21st century and the mention of 'sexually active' doesn't sound promiscuous to me (as a man) at all. It could mean also with the same partner at one time or throughout her life. Maybe you gals are bit conservative and traditional type of women or maybe because of the pressures from guys that you think it is not right to say so. For whatever it is, we all know Anita is a true woman who believes in true love, and who will give up anything for the man she loves. Just try to think about her former boyfriends, how possibly can she be a two-timer? As for her former boyfriends, I believe most of them were two-timers, three-timers, and so forth.

So, why not just forget about the unjustified comment by that so-called admirer of Anita. Same as Woodstock, I was impressed by Anita's bravery to disclose her cancer publicly. Since she had no fear to reveal it, she didn't need to bother others' speculations on the real cause leading to her cancer.

Maybe our western friend, FB to share his view as well if he is still around and ready to contribute his thought.

(P/s: Kill me with whatever tools you have. I can take it. )

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

Shiela: don't worry, and no need to say sorry. I have read many articles like Kwok's just after Mui just passed away, and we had discussion in this forum too as some fans thought it was wrong that Mui refused western treatment at the beginning. But surprised that after Mui passed 5 months, that Kwok still wrote on such a topic while she should have had 5 months to do research on cervical cancer and after-effects of cancer treatment, and on Anita Mui herself.

Actually, Shiela, thanks for let us read the article, so that we can have a chance to straighten people's mind again.

AT, Dana: Fully agree to you both, especially AT, excellently said about Mui.

In fact, different person has different view towards life and death, also each one aims at different standard of life. How inconsiderate it is if one wants to impose one's own standard of life and philosophy of life on another person, espeicially when Mui is regarded my HK people as "Daughter of Hong Kong", a herione, but what most of us are? so petite compared to Mui. It is rather difficult for ordinary people to understand the noble thoughts of a heroine.

Talking about cancer, if it can be cured so easily, or 100% it will not be categorized as Terminal disease. Also how a patient's body reacts to treatment is different, some might recover better, some might not. So a patient has to deal with his own physical and emotional factors before he decides to seek the radio or chemo treatment. In case, you do not know, as some of you are new fans of Mui, actually Mui was a physically very weak person, used to get sick easily. Personally I think if she started western treatment at the very beginning, really wonder how many treatment she could sustain, and she might not even last that long, the possibility of a farewell concert could me minimal too, because each radio and chemo treatment would only make her weaker.

For more information on treatment of cervical cancer, you can refer to archives of this forum or go direct to the link

http://www.chicagogyn.com/cervical.htm

Anyway, as AT said just let us respect Mui's decision, marvel at Mui's great personality, cherish at her achievement, her great work she left us.

AT, you are right James Wong's article is really very touching and sincere.

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

ML: I think you got us wrong, we are not upset, we are just talking about "it is very unfortunate that cervical cancer implied being promiscuous woman. " - quote from AT. So the humiliation Mui might get because people might think she was that type of woman, if they don't try to understand there are many other causes of cervical cancer.

I brought this point up in my past message just want to show how brave and courageous Mui was to declare her disease to the public, despite that she might be thought of being promiscuous. It really has nothing to do about our opinion about sex life or whatever.

Also "sextually active" is entirely different from promiscuous. A girl definitely wouldn't like be thought as promiscuous. And I don't think any normal guy would love to date a promiscuous girl . At least I wouldn't if I were a man.

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

Hi! Sheila, no apologies needed here, you did nothing wrong, ok? That lady needed to read up more on cervical cancer, understanding it and how it affects individuals. Secondly, Anita is a well-known celebrity therefore that lady ought to do more research on Anita's past history in all directions before writing that article.

How about that, ML? Are we LADIES being concervative and traditional? How typical of a MALE, ML. The main topic here is about the implication of promiscuous women linking to cervical cancer patients, nothing to do w/sexually active. Consult your female partner if you do have one.[no insult intended here,ok!]

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

Woodstock, thanks for correcting me. Actually, I have never associated cervical cancer with promiscuous woman. Don't see any reason people would think of Anita as promiscuous woman. Neither would I think a woman with that cancer as promiscuous woman. Similarly, for AIDS patients, I don't see any reason I shall despise them.

When I read that article, I may be uncomfortable but I don't think her comment to the extent that she insulted Anita as promiscuous woman. Maybe because I'm not a woman.....Dana has her points and reasons to get upset and to make things right by giving her precise medical facts, which I applauded.

For me, nobody including me can accurately judge a woman as promiscuous woman. At least I know, I've no rights to perceive them that way. All human beings including sex workers have pride too. My perception for women changes with time as I grow older. Of course Woodstock, I do agree with you.

My apologies for offending readers here again.

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

Sheila, you do not have to apologize.
I just wanted to say regarding Kwok’s article that if she writes something about someone, she should not measure or judge him/her with her standard. Her standard is not applied to everybody. Foe example, if someone is very famous, what ordinary people think normal can be abnormal to him/her. Anita Mui had a clear idea of life and death and she accomplished what she wanted to do before leaving us. That is the most remarkable thing anyone, famous or not, can do.

Dana, you can read James Wong‘s article at this link.

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

ML: You are right Kwok's comment didn't imply Mui being promiscuous, but she queried about Mui's bravery and courage. So I brought up the topic that Mui was being praised for being brave and courageous to admit to the public that she had cervical cancer by a Chinese critic on a medical book, about certian causes of certain disease could bring wrong impression of the patient.

As Dana said, no need apology, because we don't feel being offended at all, and every one is welcome to express their view.

AT: Thanks so much, I feel so flattered. I'm going to faint. I have already registered at HKVP radio forum, I intend to write something against that Kwok's article

Dana: Don't get jealous, but really very impressed that my secret admirer is a very educated, smart lady with insigt. See you always push me to do this and that, but you never finished reading all the stuff in the web yet

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

Sheila, thank you for provoking discussion of the Kwok article, because of course I saw it when it first came out and I got so upset and depressed that I wanted to just shut up and not post for a while. It seemed just such a giant step backwards, after all our discussion of Nirvana, and the true nature of life and death. Like Ms. Kwok is going to catch the butterfly and say "Go back, you owe us five more years as a caterpillar" She says--Anita didn't have to die, no, maybe she could have lived 5 more years, but maybe disabled in some way or other, she could adopt a child...how Anita is somehow not brave. Can you imagine being that child and having to say goodbye to your mother after 4,5,6 years, when your mother is Anita Mui? All of us are like that child, the choice Anita made was to spare us that suffering.

There are many famous people here who have had cancer or other disabling conditions and have been treated, its like signing a bad contract with CA or a loan shark, sure you're alive, but "cancer survivor" always appears next to your name from then on, you are expected to be a 'spokesman' and fund raiser for cancer, to appear with sick kids, if you refuse you look like a jerk, if you go along then the pain of all these sick kids and other people inevitably enters the collective experience of your art work and poisons the way it will be perceived 10-20-50 years from now and forever. There are bad people, even religions, who would love to say: "See, even the most beautiful, most kind, wealthy, and sexy girl can be destroyed and be made to suffer! Look what happened to Bad Girl! It can happen to you! Don't get too proud! Obey us!" Of course the tabloid press loves stuff like this, it's their food, they search for every scrap of Anita's pain, amplify it and show it to us, we suffer in sympathy, (and there are very many of us), and this would hurt Mui Jei more than anything real that is happening in her own body. It may not seem so now for some people, but the way Anita took control of her destiny in her last two years of her life to preserve the memory of her art and life and keep it pure and beautiful for us, and keep it out of the hands of the cancer-vampires and nasty press, is truly inspirational. She is my hero!

Like so many have said, the total length of a life is not really that important. Like a perfectly cut diamond the size of a hen's egg, compared to one the size of a goose egg, but with an ugly flaw in one side, which is better? The goose egg, you attract admirers with the good side, then turn the ugly side facing to scare children, or to use as some kind of 'moral lesson', or just chop it up to sell as 200 ordinary engagement rings, the hen's egg diamond is smaller, sure, but still extraordinary, huge, and perfect from all sides forever.

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

About my posting at the forum of HKVP Raido, the writer came to give a reply trying to give some explanation. She said she wrote the article within days after Mui pased away, and she did have many questions, and she didn't have an answer for those questions and till today she still doesn't understand.....blar bla.......

I don't blame her for not understanding Mui, as I already said ordinary people won't undertand Mui, also if she doesn't try to understand Mui, her background, her culture and most important her religion, but insists on her own belief, how will she be able to understand the thoughts of Mui?

Never mind, I wouldn't bother to reply her. But I'm glad that lots of readers reading my comment, at least they should know there are some different opnions from the writer, and hopefull they will be convinced by me that we should respect other people's decision and life philosophy.

For your imformation, the writer is a very active participant of that forum, her posting appeared under all threads, about 220 postings till today. She is married with husband and children, right now maybe full time taking care of her kids. Sounds quite an arrogant person by her reply to my comment as still defending herself, though in a polite way ..same as telling us she respects Mui but condemning her decision.......my comment on her article might become a setback on her credibility in that forum. But I do think people have to be responsible for whatever they say especially when it will affect the image of a well respected person, like Mui who has already passed away and can't even defend herself.

To Woodstock:

Well, some people are impossible to comprehend that there are many ways of living. I simply do not want to be near them. There is no argument or understanding with them because for them there is only limited way, his or her way. I see them insensitive, inexperienced, narrow-mind, arrogant, non-compassionate whom I do not want to be although in a way they seem to be lucky to see their lives are so simple.

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

I came across the following on an inspiration poster the other day:

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered; forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of being selfish and having ulterior motive; be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; succeed anyway.
What you spend years building, someone may try to destroy overnight; build anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough; give the world the best you have anyway.

Our beloved Anita has done/achieved all the above!

Hi Audrey, that is a great quote. Certainly I imaged Anita while reading it. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Woodstock for Ming Pao Weekly all Florence Chan’s articles and #1238 translations. (Now it seems like you will remove #1238. I cannot access it.) I think Florence did not understand Anita well enough regarding episode. Florence should have told Anita about hotel booking beforehand, then, there would not have been trouble. She did not know Anita’s character. Florence seemed thought about Leslie first because she knew he would not mind to stay at a better hotel than crew. As a whole, they are interesting articles to know some background about Anita in early years at Capital Artists.
As for #1238, I was very glad to read it although I should have saved it for my research purpose. I know it was a touchy subject but that incidence was a fact. I wanted to know more about it. Is it possible to send it me?

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

AT: don't worry about Florence. I do think she is bias towards Leslie, as we know she remains to be one of the best friends of Leslie throughout his life. Even our 10 fingers are of different length, so really nothing wrong if she shows favoritsim towards Leslie. When 2 women are good in the same area, or Mui even better, usally can't get along too well, very normal to me.

About the article at Ming 1238, I didn't remove it. It was under the Nostalgia interview. No matter it sounded like a rumor, but I do believe Mui was some what a very innocent victim of the whole thing and unfairly treated. You would never hear her mentioning this incident again, at least I don't remember, okay except by media after her demise. Personally I believe this is the incident reverted her previous decision and affected her life afterwards. This is only my wild guess. AT, I think you will be able to put all the stories together, and you'll come to the same conclusion as I do.

Re: Article from HKVP Radio dated 5/25/04: Anita Mui, Number one and only!

Woodstock, I have some newspaper clippings about the incident although I cannot read Chinese. I get a vague meaning of them by my limited Chinese characters knowledge and wild guessing (Sorry for my bad English. Hope you understand what I mean). Whatever the media wrote, I conclude it as you do. It was an unfortunate for Anita that she was a bad place at the bad time. Now I consider it as I will not put her on a pedestal because I do not think her as an angel or a Goddess but a human being. However, I cannot help praising her how she got up again and again, and each time she grew as a better person.
As an entertainer, she is a Goddess. Last night I saw 86-87, 90 and 95 concerts as well as 92 farewell world tour karaoke version. Three concerts were not karaoke versions so that I could see Anita only. I saw them a number of times, even so, I moved by her performance again. In my mind Anita is always with me.

With her fighting spirit, with her courage and bravery, she refused to succumb but had beaten the evil forces. Though she suffered more than anyone else, she is the final winner. You know she had the spirit and stubbornness , "You want to see me die, I won't die because of you".....that has kept her going on throughout her life. She is truly a die-hard fighter.
