Re: James Wong passed away

Thanks Woodstock. James Wong is indeed a GREAT man! Everyone mentioned abt his two most popular songs, 'below the lion rock'/'beach of shanghai'. Anita did get to sing that song, 'beach of shanghai' too n I enjoyed it tremendously. Hope I could get to hear the other one someday.

Re: James Wong passed away

Daphne : I totally agree with you that Uncle James will always be remembered by us. He definitely is a talent. Poor HK, has one real talent less

ana: besides the 2 songs you mentioned, actually Uncle James wrote many many great songs including about 12 songs for Mui such as :

"Heart Debt ¤ß¶Å", "Ask you to stay for tonight ¯d¦í§A¤µ±ß", "Man in the Wind ¤H¦b·¨½", " Ask you °Ý¤@°Ý§A", "Oath by the pearl ring ¬Ã¯]«üÀôªº¬ù»}", "Don't have to think of yesterday ¤£¥²·Q¬Q¤Ñ" (he composed the music for the above 2 songs too) "Hand out my heart ¥æ¥X§Úªº¤ß", "Melt you and me by heat ¼ö·»§A»P§Ú" (Movie "City War" theme song ¹q¼v"«°¥«¾Ôª§"¥DÃD¦±), "Rose, Rose I love you ª´ºÀ, ª´ºÀ, §Ú·R§A" (Movie "Mr Canton and Lady Rose" theme song, ¹q¼v"©_ÂÝ" ¥DÃD¦±"), "Don't believe to love is a crime ¤£«H·R¦³¸o", "Which day ¦ó¤é" ( Movie "Au Revoir Mon Amour¹q¼v "¦ó¤é§g¦A¨Ó" ¥DÃD¦±), & "Today I feel very lonely ¤µ¤Ñ§Ú«D±`±I²ö" (composed the music too.)

I believe you are familiar with most of them. Actually some of them are my most favourite songs.

Agreed, James Wong was really a gifted person. May he rest in peace.

I like Mui's "Oath by the pearl ring ¬Ã¯]«üÀôªº¬ù»}" very much, but this is a side-track song, too bad that it's never on the chart.

Hi! GgWoodstock, thank you so much for the songs list. Wow! I didnt know all those songs were written by Uncle James, yea, such a talented lyricist n hes gone forever. Blessed his soul, may he be united w/Anita n LeslieC.

Yep! I do have some of those songs but not 'man in the wind'/'ask you'/'oath by the pearl ring'/'dont have to think of yesterday'/'melt you n me by heat'/'dont believe love is a crime'/'today I feel very lonely'. "¦ó¤é¦ó®É§Ú±N±o¨ì¶ÉÅ¥³o¨Ç¬ü§®ªººq¦±,Gg?" ...

Re: James Wong passed away

Lovely : you are right "Oath by the pearl ring ¬Ã¯]«üÀôªº¬ù»}" is a very nice song. I like many of Mui's side-track songs, some of them I don't know/remember too well, so everytime I listen to any of her CDs of early days, I would find new surprises and excitement.

ana, , since when you turned to be a Chinese, writing in Chinese now

You are so lucky all the time, I hope you won't be spoilt by . Do you have Mui's CML DVD? If so, then you should have "dont believe love is a crime". BTW, the lyrics of "Glowing Star" was also written by Uncle James.

Daphne: you are 100% correct, Uncle James wrote about 2000 songs, many of them are very famous ones. Definitely his legacy will last forever

Re: James Wong passed away

ana, your Chinese is getting better and better

Last night TVB had a program in Memory of James Wong , we were able to hear lots of his master pieces performed by the original singers of those songs, most of them were the TV drama theme songs. All those singers are good and experienced singers from 70s or even 60s.

The song "Handed out your heart" sung by Mui was played. Though only half of the song because it was cut off by the TV ad, Mui's voice was just so powerful, striking and different. Then a so called "pop queen" of today sang "Glowing Star", that made me miss Mui more, because under such comparison it just made me see more clearly how Mui could deliver the same song beautifully, smoothly and naturally with ease, but full of right feeling, while it might be a very difficult task for others.

It's sad that when you realize that all really talented people left one by one.

This topic supposed to be reserved for leaving messages as a shown of respect for James Wong. How would you feel when a group of non-fans of Anita cheerfully chatting something on a topic that is reserved for remembrance on Anita in forum of other artist. I do enjoy your ongoing cheerful conversations but I supposed it is inappropriate to be in this topic. I'm sorry I'm too straight but I can't help. Forgive me for spoiling your moods. Keith: You got a point, those messages have been deleted. Actually these messages are full of compliments of Uncle James's songs too, but just delivered in a light, and less serious manner, because I just don't like everybody to be overcast with grief again at the demise of Uncle James, who is undeniably a talent we all respect very much without doubts. Mui fans already feel too miserable since Oct, and the coming Dec. will be a sad month for all of us.

Anyway, no offence. Hope you feel better now

I like James Wong. Been to his show once in Singapore. Very talented, gift of the gab. I feel he treat and take care of Mui well. When she departed he wrote an article about her. I read and felt he wrote it from his heart.

Re: James Wong passed away

Thank you for your reminder, Keith, it gives me a good reflection. Sometimes, though it is not our intention to hurt/ offend / annoy anybody, a slipup may result the otherwise. I agree that we should be more thoughtful and sensitive to certain issues especially those related to lamentation and emotions. Learning is a life long process and not always pleasant. A bitter lesson makes us wiser and wisdom makes life profitable.

It is no doubt that Uncle James and his work will be remembered always.

Re: James Wong passed away

Now that I know that he wrote the Wong Fei Hong theme and music for "Once Upon a Time in China" I have to tell a story: All through the 1990's we had a theater that every Thursday night, for years, would show two Hong Kong films, so over the years we got to see on the big screen, and with a crowd of hard core fans, most all of the major films several times over. All the Jet Li and Jackie Chan films, and most of Anita's films. I can say without a doubt that the fans knew, if they knew nothing else, the Wong Fei Hong theme; after the first couple of notes they would recognize and start applauding and cheering the music, because it meant that Jet Lee was coming, to do something heroic. And when Drunken Master II came out, the theme played for Jackie Chan, and so we knew that it was about Wong Fei Hong, even though it was Jackie Chan and not Jet Li we were watching.

After reading about "Uncle Jim" I realize he's comparable to our Henry Mancini, who won several Oscars, wrote "Moon River", "Pink Panther" and music for TV for as long as I can remember.

http://members.tripod.com/~MrSuave/mancini.html

Just thought you'd like to know that on the other side of the world, a big crowd of foreigners would be clapping and yelling for this music, week after week.

What is the meaning of "Aurevoirmon Armour"?

I do not understand the language and meaning of the message Dana had left for Anita. I know it is not a good manner to ask her by adding my question into the same subject meant for Anita, that's why I open a new subject here.

Any fans here be kind enough to assist me to convert the message "I Love You" into many different languages you know?

Questions to Woodstock

Hi Woodstock,
I've a question about you in my mind for a while. You're doing a fantastic and extremely efficient job with updating this site. I bet this has been one of your routine task. Do you also hold a job? Sorry to be nosy, I'm just curious.
You know what...after a few months of regularly visiting Anita's web sites for a few months. I kind of less 'lost' that there's less and less news. Though in a way it's good w/out the gossip, but I feel a 'void' somehow. Cheers.

Re: Questions to Woodstock

Hi KC,

Woodstock is definitely holding multiple jobs; be them paid jobs or non-paid jobs. All jobs (including houseworks at home by housewives) done efficiently considered good jobs. Good job is a real good job when there is no pay-concern or if your pay doesn't commensurate with hard work you do for the company. Good job done by others should not be taken for granted. Woodstock definitely holds good job in this website and forum. Why should we be bother whether she holds other job or not? Since Woodstock wants to remain anonymous, we should respect her, not asking sensitive questions.

No offence meant here. We are all adults and please kindly do not take my message as an attack, can or not?

Re: Questions to Woodstock

Uncle ML: Thanks for replying KC for me.

KC: Guess you are very curious how come I can spend so much time for this website or forum. Honestly speaking, I do sacrifice a lot of my leisure, such as time for watching TV or time for sleep and etc. in order to help in this website or attend questions in this forum. But since I promised Snoopy that I will do translation for her, also I consider this work to be my dedication to Anita, I will try my best. And I'm a stubborn and persistent person too, what I do I like to make it best within my capability, no matter it is paid or non paid job. As long as other fans, even only one, who enjoy this website and find information here about Anita is useful, I feel happy about it already.

I know, without Anita's news, really new news, life seems to be quite boring. But can't help. Not much can be done. However I still feel that we are blessed at least we still have the memories and works of the greatest artist to cherish.

Anita Mui 89 Concert DVD?

Hi, i remember reading on this website that they were planning to release the old concerts of Anita Mui...

what's the latest news on that? i haven't heard anything since. i really think that the asian music industry is really stupid. as a media student and purely from a marketing perspective, it is CRIMINAL that the record company didn't release her concert DVDs considering her fans and chinese people alike would like to buy her memorabilia...from a respecting fan point of view, it might be wrong, but when have record companies ever been considerate of fan's and singer's views? LOL

Cheers,

Raymond xx

Re: Anita Mui 89 Concert DVD?

I know it's a travesty! It seems that Mui Music or Musicnation or whoever already brought the copyrights from Capital Music as her fantasy gig and classic moment were released... It seems that they are still so concerned about money! We should ask Anni from HKVPR.com so she can answer us.

Re: Anita Mui 89 Concert DVD?

Here is the reply of Anni to Raymond quoted from HKVP radio:

["I remember reading they were planning to release Anita Mui's old concerts on DVD. I haven't heard anything since. I think the Asian music industry is stupid. As a media student and from a marketing perspective, it is CRIMINAL that the record company didn't release her concert DVDs. From a respecting fan point of view, it might be wrong, but when have record companies ever been considerate of fan's and singer's views?" Raymond, Melbourne

Anni: Dear Raymond, No record company is going to pass up the chance to generate revenue, especially in today's environment. The issue at hand isn't whether the record company is stupid or being respectful, but it is a matter of law. If a constituent that benefits from these DVDs (multiple publishers, multiple record companies, Anita's heirs, distributors) doesn't agree with the release, they will have to battle it out. Releasing concert DVDs can get hairy because of paying royalties to publishers, composers, and for paying the public performance fees. Things don't get released all the time because it's caught in a web of law and tug-of-war for revenue. ]

..............................................

Anni is being very prudent and diplomatic. The core problem is a matter of money than law, when all agree on the share each will get, there won't be "tug-of-war for revenue", so what part of the issue does law play?

Asking TVB to broadcast her Chinese Opera Performance

I would like to ask all those interested to send email to TVB, asking them to show Anita's Chinese Opera Performance.

I sent an email to: music@staff.tvb.com

Message is:
"With the up-coming Anita's Memorial Special, please consider broadcasting her Chinese Opera performance in the "1988 Po Leung Kok Fund Raising Night".

I know a lot of her fans would like to see that again.
Please forward this to the right person if this is not the correct email address to use."

Could everyone do the same thing and hope that our wish could come true?

For those who can send in Chinese, please send in Chinese also.

THANKS

Six Strong Guys

This is the name of a recent HK film I just read about at:
http://www.hkentreview.com/pages/2004movies.html
(scroll down to the Sept. 2nd entries) in which Anita Mui's death is an element of the plot of the film.

"Synopsis: (Official synopsis) One full moon night, six urban professionals gather at the top floor of one of the most prestigious office towers in this bustling metropolis. They are going to jump off from the building. The suicide pact is thwarted in the end. News comes of pop diva Anita Mui's death, and the six men suddenly see the deeper meaning of life: it may be heroic to die, but staying alive can be even more heroic. They summon what is left of their courage. Once again they will look fate in the face. Almost instantly, their fate takes a dramatic turn."

Anyone seen it?
