Apr 28, 04 - 5:48 AM Anita lives !

Who says Anita has died??

Only her body is dead but her spirit is alive and free in the air. Think about it-

Each time you remember her generousity, charitable acts, big heartedness, kindness to the needy, great attitude, efforts to improve herself, dedication to her work, helpfulness, her fighting spirit, Courage, she is ALIVE in your mind.

That means if we dare to practise embracing life, keep perservering, be generous, be helpful, be forgiving and be brave like her,you may suddenly realise she has become part of you, Alive in spirit!

Ask yourselves why she must always be so positive, encouraging, frank etc....because she wants to set a good example for people - that's Big Sister! Doesn't she have pains and troubles like all of us? Yes, but her strong face to the public is to share courage, confidence, aimed to motivate people in despair and encourage people to be a better person, to help make the world a better place with love and kindness. She can't change the world alone. She needs our help.

That's why we love, admire and adore her for. Right??

So all her loyal fans who love her dearly and crying silently missing her, Anita knows what she is doing. If you love her enough, you won't disappoint Mui !

Me too. I was never a big fan of her. However, in the last 5 months, I couldn't help looking for her news and past stories in the internet. I thought came to me this morning. After the release of this last concert, there may not be anything new from Anita anymore. My feelings are mixed. I feel that I need to get over but there's a void in my heart.

Jun 9th, 2004 - 12:29 PM Re: Thought I got over her death

I got the VCD of her classic moment live. Prior to that I heard some of my "criticizing" friends said she went off key.... no breath ... and the like.

BLOODY HELL. if you are sticken with cancer and hold a concert. lets see how you fare.

And the last song was "sunset melody" for her concert. Mui carried it off so well. And that song is NOT an easy song to sing ok.

(I brought the VCD down to a karaoke lounge and asked them to play the "Ave Maria" song in "analog" mode...ie vocal mode. Everyone in the lounge was speechless....no chatter... no five tens.... and everyone clapped after the song... to Anita Mui.)

that whole concert happen less than 2 months before her departure.... who in the HK music history can do that. I salute you Mui from my heart. You a legend... a true legend.

Jun 11th, 2004 - 3:38 AM Re: Thought I got over her death

I guess we are not the only ones missing her. I bet many who access this website remember Mui one-way or another. It is natural to grieve over the loss of someone close at heart but it is also important to realize the importance to recovery. Missing her is part of the recovery process and the recovery process is very personal. There is no one way and different people takes different amount of time to recover.

I believe in recovery, one would have accepted the death of Anita, accept the fact of the permanent loss, pull ourselves together bravely and live our lives once more, opening up our hearts to continue to find new love and experiences in life¡KJust like the way Anita was trying to recover from Leslie¡¦s death!

In extremes, we can allow Anita to become part of our life, like an inspiration, role model or just choose to remember her as a world-class entertainer only. Loving Mui doesn¡¦t mean that we can¡¦t love other people. Like Mui, she won¡¦t stop falling in love and she can¡¦t live in grief because Leslie died¡K because that¡¦s not an effective¡K(you may have heard her confession during her last concert). Instead she transformed her pains into positive energy to share with the needy and relive her life as best as she could, ever persevering, to live up and fulfill her own dreams besides fighting the cancer.

Whoever we may be, I am sure Anita hopes we do the same if not better. She would want all that love her to continue living well. It will be even more wonderful to continue her legacy of charity and wise personality. So lets pull our hearts together. Let¡¦s encourage each other to keep trying to relive our lives like Mui says, ¡§Jake Gig Di¡¨ and be better persons. Whoever else misses Anita, you are not alone !

This forum is the perfect place to share our shoulders for tears and encouragement.

Jun 18th, 2004 - 5:37 PM Re: Thought I got over her death

Hi all.

Having read over all your messages, I am glad to know that I am not alone. Since her death six months ago, I have still been thinking of her for time to time, almost everyday. I have accepted this fact as a fact now, but I just can't help myself reviewing her songs, newspapers and radio interviews, etcetc almost everyday, even though I live overseas. I think Anita was not just impressive in her singing and talents, but also in her dedication and contribution to Hong Kong in terms of its welfare, charity, development, and politics. I just watched an MV on 4th June, 89 with the song sang by Anita. Her voice is so so touching. In everything she does, she does it with all of her heart!!!! She has helped make Hong Kong a better place and we are so proud and lucky to have had her!!!

I feel that everyone who misses Anita is a good person at heart. It shows that we care about our society, our people, and have sympathy! This makes me feel better on one hand. But on the other, we must keep our nice intrinsic intentions growing and let's make HK a better and stable society.

I don't think anyone has forgot Mui yet, otherwise we won't be here sharing our feelings and exchanging information about her past works and her life stories. I like the following verse very much, as it expresses exactly our feelings.

Memories Keep Those We Love Close to Us

Hold fast to your memories,
to all of the cherished moments
of the past,
to the blessings and the laughter,
the joys and the celebrations,
the sorrow and the tears.
They all add up to a treasure
of fond yesterdays
that you shared and spent together,
and they keep the one you loved
close to you in spirit and thought.

The special moments
and memories in your life
will never change.
They will always be in your heart,
today and forevermore.

As for me, I saw her already wearing little or no make up at all during her 1992 world tour farewell concert karaoke courtesy of a friend(you know who you are...thank you again so much!) and honestly I love her even more for her simplicity....and actually she's very beautiful even without make-up!

Jun 28th, 2004 - 10:26 AM Re: how much do we actually love anita?

After mui departed I dreamt of her 3 times... the first time I saw an old woman who look like her face was bloated up, her mouth was burnt abnormaly large and when she open her mouth, you can see holes right thru her head. that was very soon after her death, instinctively I know she is Mui... I asked her "Are you OK?" She replied VERY confidently... "Yes! I am ok"

That was a dream, but my admiration for her in my dream never waived. (many friends gave different interpretation of that dream... but that's beside the point.)

I have never thought of Mui as a beauty in the conventional sense. It was her work that draw her to me. After her death, I knew more of her as a person from the numerous reports about her. My love for her grow.

In fact my mom was not very supportive but aiya... I am 33 years old I know what I am thinking lah.

In her own way Mui beauty is more than skin deep and it transcend over time.

How much do I love Anita???? No words can be said on how much I love and admire her! It doesn't matter on beauty, fat, skinny, good, bad or whatever. I admire her ever since I was very little. Her voice, her charisma, her talent, her charity work, her sense of humor, basically everything about her. One can say I worship the ground she walked on! If she had changed in appearance, it would not matter as long as her personality was the same.

I would like to thank Woodstock for all the hard work she had contributed to this website. As we all know how she had updated and accomodated so many feature to be share by all fans. Without her effort, this site would not be so interesting and informative. Bravo and thank you , granting all Anita's fan a big favour in providing so much data and facts.

Honestly, I believed Woodstock had evolve along with our generations by learning skills to keep herself updated, which I dare to say, many are lacking this courage. Learning is a never ending journey, even till the last breath we had. Sadly, most ppl choose to ignore this skill we attain since birth.

By learning and sharing, we achieve an unbroken cirlce of life. To me, sharing information, brought more indepth understanding of various emotion and most importantly how we perceive life in this universe. Of course, some may disagree yet it's a challenge to know and understand from different angle, why we hav this differences. Nevertheless, we still have prejudice to various ppl due to their expression. Tolerance and patience would enable the full story to unfold, until then we have the greatest task to learn, which is keep cool and think out of the box.

My work revolves around the task of understanding the needs of my client, which a lot time, they chose to portray out of a fairy tale storyline. So, delicately I had to move to unfold the real story behind them and create the right environment to suit their real/fact's lifestyle.

Please don't think snoopy as a know all type of yellow pages (most does, anyway), only could try the best to provide the answer. But snoopy is just a normal human, with emotions and tantrums.... hahaha... can't escape that.... and yes, I am hot headed!!!.... somtime way out of line due to out of the box nature. But will be sane very soon once touch ground.

Since Anita left, yes there is a huge wound and pain immeasurable by scale. Only work and time could heal the pain, yet the scar is permanent. That's life, turbulance of human emotion and living thru could almost feel like hellfire.............. will survive as usual with lots of support from here and there... and yes, this website forum has become a thought provoking challenge to so many issue like karma, meaning of life and death..... maybe should also list out the books to read to enlighten our thoughts... thus helping ourselve to untie the knots........

Jul 5, 04 - 7:28 AM When will bereavement end?

I've been asking the same question repeatedly during the past few weeks. I was never a die hard fan of Anita before she passed away. (In the strict sense, I am not even qualified as a fan, no autograph, no collection of photo, no personal contact). But I don't know why I am so obsessed to all those things related to her including songs, MV, past news or interviews after her demise. I've been visiting different webs day and night dedicated to her to search for new news. After reading the postings of others, I feel better. I even enjoy reading an imaginary interview between Anita and her fan of a fictitious magazine posted in another web.

It is not my character to express myself so openly and frankly. I didn't tell my friends about my grief and sorrow for the loss of Anita, I think they won't understand. I keep all these feelings to myself, deep in my heart. However, I know I need to overcome this and bring my life back to normal. I hope the sharing of my inner feelings carry a therapeutic function, which enables me to walk through the bereavement stage.

Everyday since Anita died, I just can't help not to listen to her songs, not to watch any of her concerts or any of her movies, and not to pass by to any of the sites that has anything to do with Anita. I feel my day is not complete if I won't do any of this "rituals or routines". And just like you, I keep asking myself, can I really move on and be back to my "normal life" just before Anita came....Though I love having this special feeling inside, but I know that someday I should be able to carry on, move on and just live life to the fullest the way she has.

Grandma, I share the same feelings too.... every time I mention the name 'Anita Mui' to my friends or colleagues, they just give me that kind of "Anita Mui again?" look and then change the subject to something else. So, I got the hint that they are obviously not interested and stop talking about Anita with them. I am glad to have this forum so that I can come by every now and then - knowing that everyone here shares the same interest.

The pain and sadness will not go away so easily but life still has to go on, so try to put it aside and concentrate on other more important things first (like our job).

Take care, Grandma.

Thanks to Indian Ocean, Angel, Audrey, june(again), cc and AT. Thank you for your comfort and support.

At last, I find someone who speaks the same 'language' as me, no need to disguise myself. During the past ?? years, I have been leading a very strict and self-disciplined life. I always believe that I am a very sensible and mature person and never realize that I have any idol. My friends know that I 'like' Anita, whenever there is any good or bad news about her, they will say 'Your idol so and so...'. I will correct them immediately that I love her songs, movies and stage performance because she is such a talented artiste, but she is no idol of me.

I even lied to myself, unconsciously. Only after her demise, I came to realize how strong the affection is, but it was too late. There came the mixed feeling of grief and guilt, I regret that I was not brave enough to defend her against negative comments, not loyal enough to be known as a fan. It seems that I've been unfaithful to an 'old friend'.

Jul 6th, 2004 - 6:09 PM Re: When will bereavement end?

Grandma:

Actually you have revealed the feeling and situation at/after her demise of many people who love Anita (I won't use "fan", because sometimes I am a bit confused what is the real definition of a "fan", ).

Only her demise made some of us realize that we actually love her more than we knew. Each person reacts differently to the demise of his loved one. But according to psychologically analysis, besides grief, guilt feeling towards the deceased loved one is a very common reaction, that also causes many regrets. But gradually we will overcome that, as long as we try to think positively.

As some fans mentioned Mui's demise was a wake up call to us. So let's not look back, but look forward. Try to remember what Anita wants us to remember: show more care and compassion to people around us, and as Amanda reminded us "Treasure those beside you", that was the final message Anita left us. So try to live each day happily and meaningfully.

In short, Grandma, you have plenty patient listeners here always ready to share your feeling and grief. It might take some time to heal your pain, but okay, as long as you already realized your problem and you have already started to face it bravely and positively.

Cheers!

Woodstock,

No other words can express my sincere gratitude to you, so please do accept my .

It seems that I've come to the right place to verbalise my feelings, I feel much better now as if I've gone through a session of group therapy. Thanks all the therapists. I will try to think positively, look ahead and treasure my family and friends more. But this is no easy task for a pessimistic and reserved person.

I once asked my friend, if we are able to 'count the days' we spend with each of our beloved ones, would we be more patience to them, more caring, more supportive, less selfish ....She told me if we treat others well just because time is running short, it is only conditional love. How much you love a person should not be governed by the time span, whether it is short or long ...

Jul 8th, 2004 - 6:57 AM Re: When will bereavement end?

Grandma: Your friend is correct. But there are different kinds of love, parental love, love between siblings, love for friends, and love between lovers and love between husband and wife. But can all types of love last forever? I don't think so...but my love for Mui will, I'm pretty sure.

As most of us are brought up in the metropolitan environment, and have adopted the metropolitan culture. We tend to look cool, to hide our emotional feelings; we are comparatively self centred, and are so busy with our work that we hardly have any time to think, to spare some time with our family or fiends in need. In a material sense, maybe we are abundant in all aspects, e.g. have a good job, able to buy brand names and etc, but spiritually we are so void. This I think is not really a quality life.

Actually, I don't know how to love a person either, but I think if I can spare some time to be with a friend or a family member who wants a listener, as long as I show that I care about them, show my understanding and support, they will already feel the love. So we don't have to make a special effort on purpose, just try to contribute a little bit time to be with our family, parents or kids, each day. I think we have already done a good job.

Also I think we should really learn not to be too self assertive, but be more easy doing, and lower our pride a bit. In this way we will not only make people around us happy, we will be happier ourselves.

Grandma, I'm not just talking about you, but about all of us in general. And this is just my own opinion, not necessarily to be correct.

Woodstock, I won't doubt your love for Anita will last forever but I'm not sure if the intensity of love will change with the passage of time or sublimate to another form. (No offense to you, just referring love in the general sense). It is not uncommon to find after some period of time, love fades or turns into responsibility, attachment, customary gesture ... Should we 'uphold' the original form of love or should we let it evolve?

Dear grandma, bereavement is a universal n integral part of our experience of love as tears are an appropriate response to death/grief. Do have a good cry if you feel the need as it will wash out your pain n miseries. In the final analysis, time is the only comforter for the loss of someone we love or had feeling for.

Today, tomorrow n always, we are here for you, grandma.

To Angel: Thanks for your sharing of the 'love' link. It's great. I like the quote 'You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving' most.

Thanks dana, too. You look so 'different' here.

I won't say bereavement will end overnight but I know I'm on the right path and will get through it soon. The scar may still remain but no more pain. I enjoy visiting this web very much and grateful to all of you who had encouraged and comforted me.

Farewell to all of you.

Jun 30, 04 - 1:41 AM A Heartfelt Thanks to All !

Today is 30th June 2004.It'd been six months since our dearest Anita left us.

I'm posting here to express my gratitude to Woodstock & Snoopy and some of the fans for their selfless contributions to this web:
Firstly, to Woodstock and Snoopy, I'm very grateful to both of you on the translation works and upkeeping of this web. You are definitely true to Anita, I knew it from the way you wrote & expressed your feelings towards her, I felt very touched as I could feel your love for Anita is so deep, and you knew her so well. Sincerely appreciate your effort in keeping us updated on major news, MTV downloads and upcoming releases on Anita's Album.

Being a fan of Anita since 1983, I didn't come to know about this web till Anita passed away, it's a shame. I couldn't pull myself up for a couple of months since the day she left.I cried the minute I started to think about her or hear her song. For the past half year, while reading all the messages in this forum brought me tears & laughters, this is the only place that can give me strength.

My apologies for not contributing any messages, though I'm quite a regular reader in this forum, though my love for Anita shall never end, I don't know how to talk about my feelings as I'm a shy person and I don't write good English. Reading this forum gave me a lot of comfort, I felt glad that Anita has so many loyal fans, so many different people from all over the world can come together to tell how much they love her.

Today, I also want to give special thanks to the following fans of Anita (some frequent ones in this forum, sorry if I missed anyone) for helping me to straighten my mind and overcome my sorrows over Anita's death ana, Angel,Leelee, Sheila, Audrey, AT, Jack, June, FB, ML etc.

Special thanks to some of you who wrote poems & sang praises about Anita that had brought me to tears. And some of you (especially Woodstock, Snoopy & ILA) who wrote mature thoughts about Anita that had made me stronger. Woodstock, thanks for translating Heart Sutra.

I too voted for Anita when I have time, if I'm not wrong it was Timothy who initiated and kept us informed on the voting web (which is ending today), thank you, Anita is number ONE on the list!

Thank you all!!! xie xie ni men!

Gratitudes from Amanda (Singapore)
Amanda

Hi all,

Thanks for all the heartwarming replies and encouragement. When I have time, i'll write some past events on why I adore Anita for 20 years, wholeheartedly. Hope not too boring for you guys as those were considered historical.

Once again, Woodstock, your message brought tears to my eyes, thank you for the warmth welcome.

Jul 1st, 2004 - 8:22 AM Re: A Heartfelt Thanks to All !

Hi all,

okie, before dana comes after me, i thought it's better to write something 1st
better not write too long, just a little to start off in case i put you guys to ..

how i get to like Anita,it's like love at 1st sight...
back in 1980s, most of my schoolmates were crazy watching TVB cantonese serial dramas & talking about HK stars (at that time, TVB serial dramas were very popular in Singapore). my family couldn't afford a VCR then, so i never had a chance to get involved in the topic.

the 1st time i watched a complete serial was when i went to stay with a friend during a school vacation & that was "Summer Kisses Winter Tears"- my 1st encounter with Anita! she was the leading actress. at 1st i thought she was an actress, but she sang so well, she was cool!! after one episode, i got so fascinated by her, couldn't even sleep, i watched all 20 over episode in just one mid-nite. after that nite, i went around trying to find out more about her.after knowing she was actually a singer, i bought both her 1st & 2nd albums 'xin zai' & 'fei yue wu tai' (sorry, this is in mandarin, i dunno how to put them in cantonese).after repeatedly listening to her songs, i could memorize all the lyrics in a few days.

since then,my crazy days started... i'd wait for her 3rd album & so on....everytime i came to know of her new release, i'd stand at the cassette stall for new arrivals, so much so the minute the seller saw my face, he knew wat i wanted. meantime, while waiting for new releases, i'd keep all newspaper cuttings and magazines about Anita...once, i was too overjoyed and engrossed over one magazine that came with Anita's big poster that i almost got ran down by a car .

better stop here...hope i'm not too bored, but i really cherish those days....at this moment, i'm too upset.

Amanda: It's very interesting to know how you started to know Anita. Actually I'm always very impressed by those fans who told me how they saved all their pocket money to buy tapes and magazines related to Anita during their school days. I can imagine how painful you feel when Anita left us. Just continue your story when you feel better okay?!

Yes, speaking about pocket money, I remember I did spend most of my pocket money on magazines which has Anita's pictures inside (even if there was only one!). I dare not bring the magazines home because my parents will kill me for spending money on those magazines, so I asked one of my friends to keep them and I would go to her place to look through them and cut out Anita's pictures.....those were the 'crazy' days ...

Amanda, looking forward to more of your story - they bring back old memories for me too!

Jul 2nd, 2004 - 6:42 AM Re: A Heartfelt Thanks to All !

sorry, Anita¡¦s 2nd album was actually "chi se mei yan fang", "fei yue wu tai" should be the 3rd. age¡¦s catching up¡Kmemory is failing¡KAnita was right, and I¡¦m one of those old people who needs to sleep early..

june and angel, thanks for all your support, I felt a sense of relief after speaking here.

dear dana, I already dropped hint that I¡¦m just another old folk, so do not get agitated, relax¡K..or my blood pressure can go up¡K.

FB, forgot to thank you for your comment on my English, i still need to brush up, i've more confidence in writing chinese.

yes, Woodstock and Audrey, you were right, most of the time, I chose to go hungry inorder to save up for concert tickets and magazines. at that time, my pocket money per day was $2 Singapore dollar (HK9 now), but her concert ticket costed S$50 (HK225) for the good seats. I couldn¡¦t afford to watch every show, so I bought the 1st and last day. one imported HK magazine cost about S$2-3 (HK13.5), I would buy 2-3 copies per week depending how much I could skimp.

no one supported my likings on Anita, not in my family nor in my circle of schoolmates and friends- I received only criticism.
¡§what¡¦s so special about Anita?¡¨ my friends always asked this same old question as they thought i was too obsessed to a wrong person...they claimed Anita had very 'arrogant' expressions which they didn't like, some said she wasn't a pretty singer, some said they didn¡¦t like her voice. well i retaliated : ¡§exactly, that¡¦s the unique part of Anita and that makes her so different from other artiste, who cares about those sweet, sweet dolly-singers¡¨ at least she wouldn¡¦t fool anyone into thinking she was a great beauty. at that time, who would dare to wear like a man with coat and tie? only Anita. which female artiste could command the stage with ever-changing images and dominate the Jade Solid Gold awards? only Anita. ¡§see, I told you she could make it?¡¨ that was what I proudly proclaimed. and when she was awarded the Best Actress for ¡¥Rouge¡¦ at the Golden Horse Awards, I called for a celebration .

by the way, Anita was definitely a beauty.
to me, sometimes she looked smart, sometimes she looked gorgeous, yet no matter how she dressed, she could exude an aura of sultry sexiness. so far, no one could carry those big brands like Anita did, take Christian Dior for example.

some crazy stuffs I ever did :
1.I fell out with one guy who made too much negative remarks on Anita
2. cried a whole night out because I lost some of Anita¡¦s pictures
3. Anita liked black colour, I had my text book wrapped with Black sheets and her pictures pasted all over, got reprimanded by a teacher but I refused to remove them. on contrary, another teacher asked me to write an essay about Anita
4. I would give treats on Anita¡¦s birthdays
5. worked part-time job so as to save enough to go to a lawyer to have ¡¥Amanda¡¦ added to my given name, because it starts and ends with an A, same like ¡¥Anita¡¦
6. at 1st, my mum didn¡¦t allow my attending of Anita¡¦s concert, I protested and threatened not to take up exams (very bad gal huh ?). since then, I was allowed to attend her concerts yearly- mum's condition was to do well in my exams.
7. wished I could have a bad sore throat and recovered with Anita¡¦s voice
8. I don¡¦t sing Anita¡¦s songs in Karaoke, she was too perfect, i just couldn't spoil her songs in front of others.

enough for the day??thanks for listening to my grandma stories........enjoy your weekend!

Jul 3rd, 2004 - 5:04 AM Re: A Heartfelt Thanks to All !

Amanda: your narrative is interesting and touching. You are really a HUGE die hard fan of Mui. But looking back, I guess all these memories bring back to you tears as well as laughter.

You remind of another fan (she is a silent reader of this forum too) who had to save her money for lunch to buy the concert ticket during those days. So during the period from day one she knew about the concert to the day ticketing started, she had to eat bread for lunch. However, she could only get hill-top seat

Now whenever I see this fan, I will tease her "see, because of Mui, you didn't eat well during your growing period, so you are so skinny now."

Amanda, when you are ready for your third episode? We are always ready though!

Jul 4th, 2004 - 10:15 AM Re: A Heartfelt Thanks to All !

Woodstock, i wished my skipping of meals could fetch me a skinny body, but too bad! it went the other way¡K.

i was very touched and thankful to all of you who gave me encouragement to carry on writing, however, I must confess I don¡¦t deserve what Woodstock described ¡¥a HUGE die hard Anita¡¦s fan¡¦ because I didn¡¦t make any effort to get close to her, not shaken her hands, nor spoken to her, for this part, it was the greatest regret of my life. the closest i ever got was about a metre away from Anita¡K..it happened at an event held at Liang Court shopping centre back in mid 80s, after waited for more than 4 hour, I was able to secure a position very near to the stage, she was very attractive, completely captivating! due to my shyness, I didn¡¦t try to get any closer, me such an idiot! I should¡¦ve at least tried to touch her hands! and that was the last time (if I¡¦m not wrong) she appeared in a public event in a shopping center in Singapore.

in the past, I ever tried very hard learning Cantonese, even practiced some Cantonese conversation in case I got a chance to speak to Anita, but I didn¡¦t make enough effort to make it happen! ~I swear I¡¦ll never miss a second chance if I saw her in heaven.

also in mid 80s¡K. Anita was invited to perform at a charitable event at the Singapore¡¦s National Stadium; only those who jogged for the charity could watch her performance. I participated. a temporary stage was built in the middle of the stadium on a field about 50 metres away from the spectators. as we were not allowed on the field, i had to watch her via binoculars. in the middle of her live performance, all of sudden she disappeared from my pair of glasses, no one knew what happened as we could still hear her singing, while I was making guess maybe she had gone backstage to change, someone then shouted Anita had fallen from stage. can you imagine that? the stage was about 2 metres high from the ground. still singing with a stable voice as though nothing had happened, i saw Anita being helped from the ground back to the stage, the audience applauded, we saluted Anita! ~really heart-ache that she fell.

mid December 2003, I looked forward to attend Anita¡¦s launching of her book ¡§Heart of a Modern Woman¡¨ at Singapore¡¦s Ngee Ann City, the proceeds from the sale of her books were to be donated to the Children¡¦s Cancer Foundation of Singapore. I waited for Anita to appear but no sight of her, the longer I waited, the more I got worried because I already heard rumours about Anita¡¦s health condition, I wished she would appear to prove them wrong. my heart sank when I heard the mc announced her absence, tears rolled down my cheeks, i was quite lost at that time¡K

Amanda: Thanks again! Can't deny she is a true professional, your narrative of Singapore¡¦s National Stadium proves this again. I can understand how worried you must be when she didn't show up at the launching of her book ¡§Heart of a Modern Woman". I had the same experience here in HK, but I know you felt worse than I did, because your love for Mui is greater than mine.

BTW, I judge if you are "a HUGE die hard Anita¡¦s fan", not by how close you got to her, how many hand shakings you got, how loud you shouted in her presence, how often you attended her concerts or functions, how big is your collection of her things, how many her autographs you got, how much you spent in buying her things, or if you are a member of her fan club, or how many years you have been her fan.....in short, all these physical things can't really be used to measure one's love for a person..... I can feel you are "a HUGE die hard Anita¡¦s fan" just by how deep she is in your heart, how much you love her selflessly and how strongly you support her sensibly. This is what I call true love. Love of Mui from a silent support from a distance is no different, no less than a fan who has followed her everywhere for 21 (or more) years.

(Sorry, I mean no offence to those who have followed her everywhere for all those years. Your love might be as great as a silent supporter as long as you meet the criteria of true love - my personal definition and opinion only . Also those who could follow her everywhere are definitely luckier, I feel happy for you too!)

Jul 5th, 2004 - 9:17 AM Re: A Heartfelt Thanks to All !

a question to gals out there- ¡¥what kind of conditions will you lay if a guy wanted to take your hands?¡¦ my condition was they had to accept the fact that I need to set aside some time n love for Anita. most ran away except for my husband who thought it was just a childish act so he played along with it ¡K..years later, he then realized I was serious about it. he could be quite jealous at times, to spite me, he¡¦d even call me a lesbian ~never mind, he¡¦d probably need to do that to pacify himself.

still, I felt remorseful when I got married in mid 90s, this was due to what i committed at Anita¡¦s concerts ¡Vas she ever expressed in some of her concerts that she longed to be a bride, fans at the floor would reciprocate ¡§if you don¡¦t get married, we will not¡¨¡K. and i was one of them who shouted back. thus i couldn¡¦t stop wailing when I watched the part in Classic Moment (vcd) where Anita, in her bridal gown saying she had married herself to music, the stage n her fans. as she began to sing ¡¥ave maria¡¦, every word seemed to be tearing my heart, I felt I had betrayed her, my sense of guilt got worse since then.

i longed to have my husband¡¦s support on Anita, I tried very hard to bring this conservative man to Anita¡¦s concert. after years of many attempts, he finally gave in to the Fantasy Gig 2002. at the concert, I noticed this old man did enjoy himself¡K.hee¡Khee¡KI giggled to myself with a sense of achievement. during encore, some of the fans including me, left our seats, we dashed hurriedly to the front seats near to the stage, I was dancing to the rhythm, deeply engrossed with Anita right in front of our eyes, truly sensational!!! suddenly I felt a sharp pain on my right ear , I turned around angrily to see who twisted my ear, next to me was my husband exchanging an furious stare¡K~oops! I had left him to his seat, cleanly forgotten to drag him along .
after the concert, my husband admitted it was a very good one, he said he would watch Anita¡¦s concert with me for as long as can be¡K.i was totally delighted that he finally accepted Anita, not knowing that that was our last Anita¡¦s concert¡K..
~why? just when I managed to bring them together? this is too much for me to take¡K..

sometimes, some flashbacks would appear...gone are the days when I had my binoculars and whistle hung around my neck with some neon-light sticks in my hands. as I whistled, I¡¦d swung the sticks in one hand and held the binoculars with the other. often when the concerts reached the end, I would even stand on my seats.

on December 31st 2003, I had to attend the new year eve¡¦s function. when the clock struck 12, my friends popped champagne and sang auld lang syne ~I hid inside one washroom crying my heart out.

Truly appreciate all responses- thank you for all your patience here with me, I felt better after letting all out. will pen off today. I wish all of you be blessed with good health and happiness.

ps. can I make a wish here? i wish Anita will reincarnate to be my new born child, any objections?

Hi Amanda, glad to hear that you have managed to convince your husband to go with you to the Fantasy Gig concert and that he enjoyed and liked the concert. I was not so lucky, I tried all ways to persuade my friend to go but he said he doesn't like Anita and he don't think he will enjoy it. In the end, I didn't go for it either.

After Anita's passing, Rouge was shown on TV and my friend watched it and guess what, he was so stunned with her great performance in that movie that he regretted not going for her concert. I told him "Well, it's too late now."

Amanda, since you are also in Singapore, do drop me a line anytime you want to chat about those crazy stuffs we have done for Anita, okay?

Thank you so much for your post. You asked a question I have been meaning to ask for a long time, but was too shy and careful. It is:
girls: If your husband or boyfriend liked Anita as much as you do, would you be jealous or would it bring you closer together?
guys: does you wife or girlfriend get jealous because you like Mui and how do you handle it?

I have had a busy weekend, it was our holiday and we got an extra day off work. I have been living with the new Classic Moment DVD for a week now and am getting ready to post comments. Because it is such bright sunlight till almost 9 pm I like to watch videos in the dark, but I can't play the music loud at night, so I don't have a long time to listen. Friday night I went from watching Classic Moment to watching "Behind the Yellow Line" ---FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! Wow! This was three years younger than I had ever seen Mui, Leslie and Maggie. Now I know where the song "Fate" comes from. I have some questions about this film as well.

Gotta sleep now, thanks again Amanda!

Jul 6th, 2004 - 5:39 PM Re: A Heartfelt Thanks to All !

Amanda:

Actually as we know all of us are in the same boat, so we are just helping each other to recover from the shock and grief. Some takes longer and some might recover quicker, all depends on one's character. Therefore, I think you don't have to thank me all the time. In fact you and all others, especailly ana are helping me in a way too. This forum and website keep me busy, it helps me to think less in my free time about the loss that brings so much pain.

You are great that you finally converted your husband, same as Audrey, though it is ironic. I think, I won't bring my husband or boy friend to see Anita, as FB wants to know, because I will get very jealous indeed

Now back to your finally question. Actually I hope I won't be the one to tell you, but it seems they want to leave the hard job to me

I definitely have no objection, but I'm afraid that your wish might not come true, because Mui has gone to the Land of Nirvana, that was her wish, it means she will not reincarnate to a human being anymore and will not come back to this world again. Guess she already forsaw that many fans might want her to be their baby, from an idol to their baby...no way.... ...I'm just joking. As you know she is a Buddhist, and her wish was to go to Land of Nirvana, where she can have peace and everlasting happiness, that I believe she is enjoying now.

However, even though Anita will not reincarnate to be your new born child, I still hope you will have many children, and tell them about the story of Anita and teach them Anita's sings, so that her legacy can be carried on to generations to come.

Hi Amanda,

I wanna thank you 2, for sharing so openly. It's great 2 hear fr more & more Mui supporters. For us (Mui's supporters), I would like 2 add 2 e list of common "natural highs":

Think about these one at a time BEFORE going on to the next one...

IT SHOULD MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD

NATURAL HIGHS:

- Being in love.

- A hot shower in winter.

- No queues at the supermarket.

- Hearing Mui's song on the radio.

- Lying in bed listening to the rain outside.

- A bubble bath.

- Giggling.

- A good conversation on Mui.

- Finding a RM100 note in your coat from last month.

- Laughing for absolutely no reason at all.

- Accidentally overhearing someone say something nice about you.

- Having someone tell you that Mui is beautiful.

- Waking up and realizing you still have a few hours left to sleep.

- Making new friends or spending time with old ones.

- Having someone play with your hair.

- Knowing that so many people miss Mui.

- Sweet dreams.

- Holding hands with someone you care about.

- Knowing you've done the right thing, no matter what other people think.

- Getting confirmation that Mui is no. 1.

May 29th, 2004 - 3:54 PM Re: What is the most different and craziest Anita memorabilia you have!

I don't know how different and crazy this is, but I have this book that I bought from a mail order dealer of Hong Kong memorabilia, for $35 US, it's big, the size of a tabloid newspaper, 41 pages, from 1987, I think it's a souvenier book from a concert tour. Its all huge color photos of Anita in various costumes from the "Witch Girl" period, and many photos of Anita with tiny jewels pasted on her face in a zig-zag pattern. The paper it's printed on is thick and embossed, very expensive, with tiny colored threads mixed in the paper, like money! What I like best about it is that the photos are naive in a way, you can see that there is heavy makeup covering flaws in Anita's complexion in some of the photos, because they are so big and in focus, today this would be air-brushed out, or fixed by computer, this is more honesty than you usually get, and now I appreciate this.

The next, even crazier, memorabilia isn't really an official item at all; where I work I used to have one friend, who has even heard of Anita Mui, but he became a fan after I took him to films and paid for him to go to the '95 concert with me, so I would have someone to talk to about it. The item is a pair of antique big, pointed scissors that I have to cut stuff with at work, me and him call the scissors "Anita's scissors" after the scene in "Saviour of the Soul" where she stabbed Andy Lau with the big scissors after being possessed by Terrible Angel. My friend moved away and doesn't work there any more, but I still have "Anita's scissors" to remind me of her. I guess this is pretty crazy! I had to write this after all the serious stuff in the other thread.

Jun 18th, 2004 - 10:18 PM Re: What is the most different and craziest Anita memorabilia you have!

I just remembered another one, and I have some questions; maybe someone can fill in the missing pieces. I bought one of the earliest copies of "I'm so Happy" in Oakland Chinatown. It came in a tall, thick box (9"x5"x1"). In the top half were the CD, and a booklet the size and thickness of a CD box, of artistic photos titled "chaos, a dreadful girl, bedtime stories, the flower of my secret" etc. alternating with pages of chinese text. The bottom half of the box had a cutout oval window, showing thru was a vinyl pouch holding sample cosmetics, Ultima II brand, Age-less Cleansing and Massage Cream, Age-less Day Renewal Emulsion, and a vial of Ultima II Essence. There was also a $50 gift coupon for Ultima II products with Chinese text, and the Capital Artists logo.

Now I know this much: The CD was originally called "Mui Mui", but the French fashion line Miu-Miu threatened to sue CA and Anita, saying the name was too close to their name and would confuse their customers. So instead of fighting them in court, CA changed the name to "I'm So Happy" and pasted black stickers with the new name over "Mui Mui". I peeled one off, underneath is "Mui Mui". (This recalls the famous Beatles "Yesterday and Today" album with the 'Butcher' cover! It came out with a photo of the Beatles in butcher smocks, holding knives, surrounded by pieces of meat and cut up dolls. The cover was so gruesome and alarming that it was recalled to the factory and a new innocuous photo of the Beatles standing next to a trunk was pasted over the original.
These first editions sell for hundreds of dollars. A rare copy that was bought before they were recalled and pasted over is worth many thousands!! read about it at: http://www.eskimo.com/~bpentium/butcher.html )

Anyway this whole episode made me angry. Can't use your own name? Forced to kow-tow? To the French!!!??What moron is going to confuse Mui with Miu anyway? And what about the cosmetics promotion? If Anita Mui is going to send me tiny vials of essence it had better be something worthy of....well I want to be able to sprinkle a few drops on my pillow and be transported in my dreams to Yi Hung Lau! Of course I tried this, but no luck; it smelled like ordinary soap. Why does CA have to take money from Ultima to promote to Anita's fans, and did Anita agree to this?

I guess my questions are: is this edition rare, did everyone else get the booklet? (I can scan & post it if needed), is there any gossip about the cosmetics, and finally, the names of the songs "City of Lost Children" is the name of an absolutely fabulous French film, if you haven't seen it, try to do so! Does the song have anything to do with the film? Also "Dead Poet's Society" is the name of a film starring Robin Williams about an English literature teacher and his students, is there any connection? Anything in the lyrics to explain why the songs are named this way?

I kept all the packaging and pieces except for the peeled off label, and the small amount of essence used for the dream experiment. Hope someone can help.

I have begun to scan some of the photos from the '87 tour souvenier book mentioned earlier in this thread, I have uploaded the first picture to Rowena's group:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/mui99concert_2/
where there is still room. If you're a member you can get it, just go to Photos, click on the '87 book scans album, keep clicking on the photo till you get the full size picture. If there is any interest I will upload more. Note that the book is way too large to fit on the scanner; I have to crop the photos. Enjoy!

FB, thank you for the picture. I could not get it full size, but it is okay with me.

I carefully peeled the sticker on "I'm So Happy" cd box. There is MUI MUI s/s 2000.

I have a T shirt of 2000 Dragon concert with her autograph. The picture on the T shirt is her early one. She said, "This picture is very old."

Jun 26th, 2004 - 11:49 PM Re: What is the most different and craziest Anita memorabilia you have!

There are now 4 scans up. These were scanned and processed at a resolution of 300 dpi. If when you click on the full size picture and a giant photo starts to come in, don't worry, just wait till it all comes in, right-click, Save Picture As to a folder. When you view them later with a picture-viewer like Vue-Pro or ACDSee they will display correctly and fit on the screen. You will be able to zoom in twice before you see pixels, maybe make wallpaper from portions of them. Try temporarily setting your monitor to 1600x1200 when you play with these photos. They were printed with much finer resolution than a normal magazine and a number of them seem to have been shot with a large (8x10?) camera (like #1).

Jun 30th, 2004 - 6:53 AM Re: What is the most different and craziest Anita memorabilia you have!

In 1999 after her first series of concerts, she flew to Taipei or Kaoshiung for a concert, I heard during a radio interview that she got hurt as she was too excited dancing with a pair of 'sports' shoes. I had a very reliable information that she'd go to a local station in HK for recording. I rushed there, I was a bit disappointed as there was nobody there, I was almost thinking of going back home, suddenly I saw one of her cars GHXXXX a white Mazda, I decided to wait.... ghee I waited for 5-6 hours, it was nearly 03:00 am, she was so shocked to see me alone waiting.
I told Anita that I came to ask her if she recovered from her ankle injury.... guess what???
Hope you can guess.... I'll come back to check the answers....

Hello all,
I'm sorry I did not reply earlier as I was caught up with work...
Well, she pulled up her long skirt (she was dress extremely casual, no make ups.... ) and flew her leg up in the air, standing on one foot.... I told her 'What are you doing?', She told me 'amusingly'..."you said you wanted to see my injury, here it is.... then she stepped down after a few seconds and said "thanks, I am feeling better now'... she did not offer me a lift with her driver, instead I told my 'driver' not to follow her car.... but to let her car move on first and then we gonna drive ours. She accepted to take a photo... and of course got autographs too....
She had pity for me... (I mean @ my age!)
... other funny ones to come...

Hi all, glad you all like what I shared here. Actually for those living overseas, you did not lose anything.... I saw somewhere someone guessed that perhaps Anita gave me some money to take a cab.... she's not the kind of idol to bring her fans out for a meal, drink or similar.... that's her way.
Another encounter....?
The first time I ever saw and talked to her... after one of her press conferences, I started to take out things for her one by one to autograph, she asked me 'Do you carry all these with you?' I said 'yes', then she said take them all out rather than taking one by one.... I guy standing near me told me later that he's been around her for over a decade but he never got the chance of being offered a 'round' of autograph session....
I walked out with Anita along with other fans, I had another chance to tell her something, she said 'Do I have that much influence over my fans?, then I said 'Of course you do'....
Any idea what was the conversation about???

This is not the most unusual but it is rare. In 1999 before Anita came to the US for her concert, there was a website that was giving out free official Anita promotion CD's which had 4 songs on it. The publisher was capital artist, so it is official. I wonder how many fans out there have it. I of course ordered a bunch and have 2 still.

June, you are always fast to grab something of Mui....even the smelly bandage

Will upload the CD, later in the day, for you to take a look in case Joey won't "sell" it to you, as what we Chinese say: "Look at the plum to cure thirsty"

Joey: You are right it was given out free for promotion use only, for her world concert tour 1999, not for sale. It was distributed by "USA Singers Entertainment Inc". copyrighted by "1999 Anita Music Collection Ltd". not by CA, as it includes 4 mandarin songs, so there is a logo of BMG on the CD too.

I remember it was given out free by eHOngKong.com if we registered as a member, so I did . And later I also got it from Mui Ma's medical clinic when we bought whole set of charity T-shirts. Now only got one left. So June don't chase after me lar

Hi Angel, June
Thanks for your guessing... quite near hi hi
We drove through the Aberdeen Tunnel and suddenly my driver asked me if we need to go to SHR, I said no need we have to head home...suddenly I saw her Granvia, due to the sunshine I could not see very well as there were reflections. When we came near Cross Harbour Tunnel, I could see well inside the Granvia as we were just behind her, she had her seat turned facing us.... (she should normally have her seat back facing me). My driver asked me if we have to press the horn, I told him no need... I just waved at her and she saw me and waved me back.
By the way she likes to turn her seat facing her other passengers at the back to chat. She was going to the Artists Guild Annual party in TST....
I was like this...

Hi Indian Ocean,
So you usually sit the front seat, the next to driver? I noticed that Anita sat facing the passengers in the back. I cannot because I easily get motion sickness when I sit against the direction.

I happened to read old forum postings and I found your posting on March 26.
[I was once asked by TVB gossip ent news program, I would never realized that I'd be publicly asked, then recently I watched this segment over and over again, I realized that when I answered the question, Anita was next to me and she was laughing (I could clearly hear her laughter).... guess you may now my answer?]

I do not recall your answer. If you did, what was it? Was it happened when Anita was doing rehearsal for Fantasy Gig 2002 concert? If so, I saw that TVB clip and wondered if those fans knew TVB reporter and camera would be there.

Anyway, you said that you liked Anita because she was so generous to give her time for fans.

I was so excited and at the end, I just talked 'nonsense' 'cos I did not answer precisely what.... I just said that I appreciate everything about her....
Can you imagine that kind of answer! I think this is why Anita laughed, I did not know she was standing behind me, I only knew it when I viewed this segment.
I do not why she enjoys sitting in the opposite direction....I think 'cos she liked to face the people sitting in front of her. You know our idol just do extra-ordinary things!

In fact, that person is her devoted fan, I know who she is. Once I met her, I teased her that she really performed so well and so natural, was it all pre arranged? She said no. She mentioned Mui invited another audience first, but that one didn't accept Mui's invitation. So she was lucky to get the chance.

I always joked with my friends, if I got invited on to the stage, I would just embraced Mui, kissed her and touched her here and there mischievously to make her laugh

May 3, 04 - 3:41 PM Mui Jei, nous t'aimerons toujours !

Mes larmes tombent

Tout le temps je me demande si les nuages

N'importe la distance entre nous

fait que nous resterons votre fans pour toujours !
N'importe o?que tu est en ce moment
tu sera toujours notre superstar !

Mui Jei, nous t'aimerons toujours !

Life was so wonderful
being fan from you forever.
Singing all your songs with you
the whole concert night long.
How was I to know that
the way I was living
would never be the same
since the day you are gone...

People walk pass me
cars pass by loudly
nothing seems I can notice
only your songs are in my heart.
Step by step
don't know why
I stand again
next the coleseum
the place where you belong.

My tears will fall down
when the sky turns dark.
Everytime I wonder
is the sky becoming your stage
where you are the superstar ?

Please remember Mui Jei,
we as fans are still here,
supporting you forever!
No matter how long the distance is
between you and us exist.
Your music and love will keep us together
no matter where you are.
You are always our superstar !

Mui Jei, love you forever !

P.S. : Dear Dana, I tried my best, I was very busy with my work these few days, working 14 hours a day, therefore I couldn't make this earlier, very sorry about it ! Of course I don't mind to write this for Mui Jei, I must thank you for this request, because you gave me the chance for talking to Mui Jei. Jul 5, 04 - 7:19 AM Exclusive Flash Files for Sharing - (creator: me)

Dear All,

I'm in the early learning stage for Flash MV and focus much on ActionScript. The below 2 Flash files created by me are meant for sharing with Anita's die-hard supporters. As I go along and getting familiar with the ActionScript, more and more flash files focused on Anita (including FMV) will be created and if possible for sharing with fans in the future.

Aug 8, 04 - 3:13 PM Anita Mu was superb in A Better Tomorrow 3

I remember as a little child (1980s) listening to some of her songs while growing up in a Chinese household in the USA. Her voice/pitch was absolutely stellar and rich. I was still a child so I didn't know the names of her songs. I only recall my mother and older siblings refering to her as "Mui Yim Fong" and that she became well-known in the Chinese community.

...And now I'm older (23 to be exact) and now have this infatuation about Anita. It started as a result of watching the "A Better Tomorrow" series. (If you have never seen "A Better Tomorrow 1,2 & 3", I suggest you go see it in that order. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it.) Well anyway, Anita stars in part 3 which sets in the 1970s during the fall of Saigon. There's a part in the movie where they play one of Anita's most popular songs. It immediately took me back as a child when I originally heard it. What was the name of Anita's song in "A Better Tomorrow 3"? BTW, Anita was great in "ABT3" throughout and she fit the role well. "ABT3" wasn't as action packed as 1 & 2, but I liked what they decided to do in terms of the authenticity of using the 1970s political/military upheaval in Asia. I'm glad they didn't decide to go the route of making part 3 like 1,2.

Well, if anyone could tell me Anita's song in "A Better Tomorrow 3", I would be very grateful.

I will never forget Anita Mui. I still play that song in my mind right now.

Aug 27, 04 - 3:04 AM What is charity? ¦ó¿×°µ·Oµ½?

Our respected Anita Mui has left us for 8 months already. During those 8 months we are trying to upload some old articles or translated old articles to English, especially those interviews, in order to bring more fans to have an insight of Mui. By doing this, we believe we are promoting Mui Spirit, as fans will understand Mui better.

Mui is famous for being philanthropic. So during those past 8 months, fans are kept on being asked to do charity for extending the spirit of Mui. By now I am already very confused by the word ¡§charity¡¨, because what people doing are deviated from what I always believe ¡§charity¡¨ is.

On Jan 11th, the day on which public paid respect to Mui, once we were arranged to sit in a hall waiting to go up to see Mui. All fans were in very deep grief; some young ones if first time in a funeral home might even have a scary feeling. I personally tried to concentrate in conveying a simple wish to Mui: ¡§Go in peace, no more suffering anymore.¡¨ But my thoughts were soon disturbed as we were asked to donate money. I immediately had a very sickening feeling. Shouldn¡¦t donation boxes be set aside, couldn¡¦t these people give us a private time with Mui, just such a short maybe a few minutes, after we queued up outside in the streets for hours? Why they were so eager collecting money from us? If they really know how to show respect to Mui and to her fans, they should have left us in peace during the last few minutes we were allowed to be with Mui.

Then never ending donation functions during those 8 months. Their first target is Mui fans, those vulnerable die-herd fans who are blood thirst to collect anything with an image of Mui, or will support anything with the name of Anita Mui, as they don¡¦t like Mui to lose face if no one attend those functions.

People are raising fund with the name of Mui. When Mui was alive, she was being used all the time. Now she passed away, she was still being used.

According to my understanding, charity is any kindness, feeling of generosity, help to the poor, it is not necessarily to be in monetary term. We can do voluntary work helping others, visiting orphanage and the aged to bring them happiness, that is charity. It is always said charity starts at home, if we can be more tolerant and generous towards family members or people around us, that is charity too. So if we can learn to be kind and helpful because of Mui, Mui will be happy to see that already.

Then if we want to help an organization who is specialized in helping a certain sector of the community, we can donate money to that organization. But I would never blindly donate my money to any organization or deposit money into any personal account if I¡¦m just told they are going to do charity without a clearly stated goal or the end-users of the collected fund.

Also if people want to do charity by raising fund from other people, why they don¡¦t do something themselves, why want to use the name of Mui for promotion? Why they don¡¦t just run marathon, asking people to donate according to the mileage they run, or even be street busters singing, or dancing or playing instruments collecting money from audience? There are many ways by which you can think of if you really try. If you just like to use the name of Mui, of course this is the easier way, I think you will only bring disgrace and disrespect to Mui, because general public won¡¦t like this idea, you will only invite insult to Mui as you are using a deceased person to do charity. Your aimed donors should not only be limited to Mui fans, then the fund collected will definitely be larger in amount, and your charity function will be more fruitful and meaningful.

Therefore, if you are serious of doing charity in memory of Mui, do it yourself, by your own talent or strength. If you use the name of Mui, you are no different from other people who always use Mui, and you will be loathed more because you use your idol to achieve your personal goal. Remember, do charity only within your capability, no force and no reluctance.

Hope all fans will be more sensible, and do things according to their own conscience. Do charity only for the sake of doing charity.

The above is my personal opinion, I don¡¦t mean to attack anyone, but I just like to speak out what I feel. And 10/10 and 12/30 are around the corner, I wish what I said can be served as an alert or an advice to all fans.

Aug 28th, 2004 - 7:10 AM Re: What is charity? ¦ó¿×°µ·Oµ½?

Woodstock, your ¡¥charity¡¦ message gives me some reflection. It appears to me that in HK some previously known to be charitable organizations have ceased to address themselves as ¡¥charity¡¦ and change to non-profit making organizations then currently to non-government organizations. The true meaning of charity may be blur and these organizations are well aware of that.

I totally agree with you that people (regardless of their relationship with Anita) should not abuse her name for selfish reason and charity is no excuse. However, I doubt if all those people have bad intention. I think some of them, may organize ¡¥charity¡¦ work, or more precisely, fund-raising activities, out of simple mind. They know that Anita is philanthropic, they are so eager to be identified with Anita and to be recognized as faithful followers, they may imitate her way of doing things. Since fund raising is an effective means to arouse public attention, to generate association with Anita and demonstrates cohesiveness, no wonder there are so many fund raising activities being carried out, 'waves after waves', in the name of Anita. The gratification of identification with Anita derived from the activities may outweigh the objective of fund raising itself. Organizers, participants and fans, please give yourselves a second thought, the objectives of the activities ¡V would it be identification with Mui? Public recognition? Grief-relief mechanism? Woodstock is correct to say ¡¥Do charity only for the sake of doing charity¡¦.

I maybe wrong, please excuse me if I offend anyone in any way.

Woodstock, all that you've said make a lot of sense.

But, it's difficult to differentiate which are the real non-profit organisations and which are the ones that are out to cheat people of their money and emotions.

I think most fans really want to follow Mui's charitable footsteps and that's why they participate in most events that are organised on 'Mui's Behalf".

How can we prevent ourselves from being cheated?

Wing:

I think "cheat" is too serious a word to use, because we don't have evidence so far that fans are being cheated, in other words the fund raised is not for charity purpose. Right?

Also I believe no one forces fans to buy those things, fans are willing to support such functions, so should not be considered as "cheat".

Just as you said, we too understand that fans really want to follow the footsteps of Mui, doing more charity. But charity is not only restricted to donation of money. If you are really asked to donate money, you must look at the objectives of the activities as Grandma mentioned , the transparency of the organization, and the reliability of the one in charge of the organization.

Also I fully agree to what Grandma told me: "the real philanthropist will have compassion for those needy & under-privileged not just simply giving out money". So before you are donating money, you should have a preference in mind which under-privileged group you'd like to support, don't just donate the money without even knowing the beneficiary.

I would advice you not to support any activities that are using the name of Mui no matter what their intention is, as AT concluded for me.

If you really like to donate money, you can even donate direct to the charitable organization you like, such as Children's Cancer Fund, Oxfam, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and etc. Donation in this way, 100% of your money go directly to the organization.

So far I don't think any events are really organized truly on "Mui's behalf", except the movies shown during the HK Film Festival,i.e. for more people to appreciate Mui's performing talents & her contribution to the development of film industry . What were other events or coming events? premiere show of " House of Flying Daggers", Selling of "stamp" sheets, 1000 people dinners, or the monks dinner of Po Lin Monastery...these are fund raising activities , personally I don't think they are done on "Mui's Behalf", but using the name of Mui.

If you look in the past history, you will see Mui did charity by her own money or her own effort, e.g she would do a charity show and donate the entire net fund raised to the organization she liked to help, or she acted as ambassador for a certain charitable organization. I don't remember she ever asked you, fans, to donate money to her or to her Foundation.

Wing, I cannot give an exact answer, but at least I have given you an indication what you should consider before you do any charity. I think we just have to think and analyse more carefully each time we are asked to do donation, not just donate and donate once we hear Mui' name being mentioned, by acting in that way we only encourage more people to make use of Mui.

Jul 26th, 2004 - 5:12 AM Re: Woodstock - RE: Anita singing cantonese opera

wow, I'm so glad to hear "My family, beside being fans of Anita are all fans of Cantonese opera too, and they have always know that Anita sang very good cantonese opera". Comment like this from those who really know about Cantonese opera makes me excited. When Mui sang Cantonese opera, she just so much in it, you can feel the "rich taste" of it. Really good.

Actually she sang that " man ngok yam wai sow " on several occassions; once by herself when Alan Tam helping collection donation from audience, that was for Pok Oi, but from the clip I don't know what year. Then another time is for "Forget me show of the performaning artistes", it was for Charity too. This time was with Lowell Lo, again I don't know the year.

Tapes or VCDs are not sold in HK. A shop in Sino used to copy Video tapes for customers, but not sure if that shop is still there. But you can download that opera song from a fan's website, "those were the days", you can get the link from the index page of this website at "Voice in Nostalgia"

Aug 7th, 2004 - 5:05 PM Re: Woodstock - RE: Anita singing cantonese opera

I like her cantonese opera singing a lot because she sounded so natural, as if she was singing it everyday.
(She probably did when she was young).

When I listen to the opera clipping in "Voices in Nostalgia", I am also impressed with the way she could switch between singing and talking (asking for donations) so quickly. In the mid-section, it almost sounded like there were 2 people, one singing, and one talking, as it is hard to imagine how a person can switch back and forth like that so quickly.

Does anyone have clipping of her opera singing in the 1988 Po Leung Kok Charity show? Really want to hear that again. Does anyone have it?

Yogi: I'm impressed by Mui's singing/quick talking too. You know only when a person who really knows the song so well can do it, because it is extemely difficult, as one has to remember the lyrics, the tune and the changing of key, what to talk at the same time........she is excellent Also I enjoy watching her gestures and her eyes when she was singing the opera songs, so professional

Oct 6, 04 - 12:31 AM New ROUGE DVD

Over here the birthday celebration seems to be beginning early; the new Rouge DVD came in the mail, surprisingly fast. All afternoon at work it was suspenseful, like waiting to open a letter from the doctor saying you're pregnant, or don't have AIDS, or whether you passed your classes. Would the English subtitles be OK in this version?

Well I'm happy to say that in almost every case, the subtitles in the new edition are the best I've seen; more is translated, and I now know more about the characters than I ever did before, and the scenes make more sense, the characters seem smarter, the conversations more logical and consistent. The "fried garoupa" and such concepts get explained better in the course of conversations. And at the same time, the printed words match up in rhythm more with the spoken words of the character. There were only a few spots so far (I only watched half) when I preferred the BBC TV version in certain lines I was especially attached to (like "I'm light on my feet"-----new version "I'm light"-----previous version "my weight is lighter").

There are so many improvements in the video and audio quality that watching this new version is an adventure in unexpected ways. The Chinese opera song early in the film: there's this really hard passage to play on that hammered dulcimer type instrument, and each time thru the song in comes out wrong in a different way, she can't quite get that passage, then you see it's a really young nervous girl playing it, of course it sounds that way! You can hear all this stuff now you never could before. The sound design has been re-worked, even the Golden Harvest/Golden Way theme songs have been cleaned up. The video quality, which I thought was fine in the previous version, is now so much better I feel like I'm there in the scene, when they're lifting the bed to the upper floor, you can see the sky above and sense the time of day and weather from the lighting. The glass doors with the painted glass in Yi Hung, you can see the ripples in the reflections from the antique glass. The little pictures on the plates in Chen-Pang's mother's house, you can see this on the far side of the room, and get the feeling of the luxury of the household, and the luxury of watching a film with real props, or not just props, but the real objects themselves. The way in which Mui's face is made up as a ghost is surprisingly scary, and contrasts with how she looks as a living girl, in the most touching way. The lighting and image transfer are so superb that you can sense a hundred little movements and expressive nuances in Mui's eyes, and mouth, that you never seemed to notice before.

So I only watched half the film, then watched the Stanley Kwan interview bonus feature. This was excellent, he is really smart, I learned a lot of things about the film I never knew. Like how at first Andy Lau and Cherie Chung were going to play the Alex Man and Emily Chu parts, and how Anita, who was the only original cast member, made a special deal with the company to get Leslie, who was contracted to a rival studio, by agreeing to appear in one of their films in return for Leslie. Anita is being humble in the magazine articles on the website, according to this interview she had quite a bit more responsibility behind the scenes for the success of Rouge. And the story behind the Yi Hung Lau building, a real house, over 100 years old, actually in Macau.

So anyway, this DVD is a must have, I predict it will attract a whole new fan base for Mui, on the strength of its stunning high quality, and first-time-ever good English subtitles. What a great birthday present!

Among all the singers, guess the audience has only eyes for Anita as they were screaming, 'anita! anita!', wonder if any of you were there.

Hi Dana, Daphne & June

Can I joint you all? I have also watched the TVB JSG Best 10 awards 85-89 many many many times, lost count & only see anita's part. Anita is really really great with incredible talents in singing & dancing. She made me smile myself whenever I watched her section. Everytimes when she is singing the extra song after receiving the best female singer award, she got her own style of dance. Do you all think that she arrange herself the dancing steps for the particular song.

One more question, do you all notice that the MC for '89 said that Anita won the best female singer for 4th year but it should be 5th year, correct or not?

Yeah yeah yeah, anita is the best

Guess what Ann, we do have a common habit though, Ive been doing that too, forwarding n rewinding just to watch Anita Her dancing is unique n should be her own natural talent, right?
As for your other question, Ill leave it to une/aunt daphne/GgWoodstock/grandma/Audrey/our missing Angel/any other dear reader who is more fluent in that language .....

Nov 27th, 2004 - 10:18 AM Re: Thank You, Skippy!

Woodstock and Snoopy,
Wow, the US Priority Mail Service works very well. I mailed on Tuesday the 23rd, and they said 5 working days and it would arrive. I figured the stamps would be there around December 1st or 2nd before you received.

Ladies, these are my(and Mrs.Skippy's)Christmas presents to the both of you. I hope you enjoy, and will display in a special place! There are only 3 sets made. You both have sets 1 and 2 and can decide who gets which. I have the 3rd set. I created these when the US Postage Service allowed people to make their own "Photo Stamps" (official US Postage stamps) earlier this year. The service was discontinued on September 30, 2004, but may be started up again after the Post Office reviews and decides if they will allow the program to continue. I didn't get fancy by placing Anita's name or date of birth and date of death. I love this picture of Anita because of the red colors and it captures Anita's beautiful expression. I'd like to do one more if the service starts up again)of Anita in her kimono at the wooden rail in Koyto, but I need to find a very high resolution picture without the page split (maybe W or S could find that picture for me).

The stamps are my way of honoring Anita in the only way that I could think of, and sharing it with Anita's 2 most devoted and gentle fans who take the time to translate, keep up to date all Chinies and non-Chinese reading/speaking fans on news about our beloved Ah Mui. I wish you both a very Merry and Happy Christmas. I'm honored that you shared the stamp imagaes with the rest of the Mui Fourm.

Please tell Anita, that Skippy says Hello when you visit the Monestary later next month, and say an appropriate prayer for Anita in my name.

All my best to the both of you!
Skippy

Daphne : I totally agree with you that Uncle James will always be remembered by us. He definitely is a talent. Poor HK, has one real talent less

ana: besides the 2 songs you mentioned, actually Uncle James wrote many many great songs including about 12 songs for Mui such as :

"Heart Debt ¤ß¶Å", "Ask you to stay for tonight ¯d¦í§A¤µ±ß", "Man in the Wind ¤H¦b·¨½", " Ask you °Ý¤@°Ý§A", "Oath by the pearl ring ¬Ã¯]«üÀôªº¬ù»}", "Don't have to think of yesterday ¤£¥²·Q¬Q¤Ñ" (he composed the music for the above 2 songs too) "Hand out my heart ¥æ¥X§Úªº¤ß", "Melt you and me by heat ¼ö·»§A»P§Ú" (Movie "City War" theme song ¹q¼v"«°¥«¾Ôª§"¥DÃD¦±), "Rose, Rose I love you ª´ºÀ, ª´ºÀ, §Ú·R§A" (Movie "Mr Canton and Lady Rose" theme song, ¹q¼v"©_ÂÝ" ¥DÃD¦±"), "Don't believe to love is a crime ¤£«H·R¦³¸o", "Which day ¦ó¤é" ( Movie "Au Revoir Mon Amour¹q¼v "¦ó¤é§g¦A¨Ó" ¥DÃD¦±), & "Today I feel very lonely ¤µ¤Ñ§Ú«D±`±I²ö" (composed the music too.)

I believe you are familiar with most of them. Actually some of them are my most favourite songs.
