Meaning of 'kai'

From http://www.hkvpradio.com/#news :

"...Mrs. Mui yelled at Anita's 'kai' mother Mrs. Ho Koon-Cheung. "
"...The whole Hong Kong has people 'kai' this one and 'kai' that one."

I've heard it before, but only as a first name, both men's and women's.
What does it mean, in this usage?

Thank you

Re: Meaning of 'kai'

there are kai - sister(s), brother(s), mother, father, & grandparents, it's someone who is really close to you relate them to as sister, etc. just like a family member but are not blood related or can it? im not sure. if u say kai ma (mother) i guess in english it would mean godmother.... sorry im bad at explaining.

Re: Meaning of 'kai'

"Kai" is similar to "foster", but not exactly the same, because when you have a foster son, you might have to support him and bring him up. But when you "kai" a son, it is not necessary for you to do that. So we can have a "kai" sister, a "kai" mother and etc. if we feel we like each other and want a closer relation than just a good friend. It all depends on the age of the two. When one is much older, then it could be "kai" mother and "kai" duaghter; if very close in age, then just "kai" sisters.

If we really and formally "kai" someone, we might have a ceremony, such as having dinner with 2 families together, and the "kai" daughter has to kowtow and offer cup of tea to the "kai" mother, and the "kai" mother will give some jewelry to the "kai" duaghter.

But not necessary for the "kai" duaghter to change the surname.

Hope I have answered your question.

"kai ma" would be like "god mother" and "kai jei" would be like "god son". Would you agree?

YY:

"Jei" meant sister, just like "jei" when we address "Mui Jei". so "Kai Jei" means god sister.

Cervical Cancer, side effects of radiotion therapy & chemotherapy

This information enclosed is extracted from the information provided by American Cancer Society. If you are interested in the whole article, please refer to the website http://www.chicagogyn.com/cervical.htm, and I recommend all of you to read it. After the reading, you will understand Ah Mui's present physical condition better.

Of course we don't really know exactly what stage is Mui's cancer, but it is analysed by some specialists based on Ah Mui's situation, she should be at Stage IIB, so with a very good chance of recovery. Of course all depends on her follow-up care after treatment, so I hope Ah Mui will read this artclte too. But I like to stress that strong social support group (that is her fans) and her own deep faith will help her a lot in her life after treatment. So all fans must have faith in her and keep on supporting her, Okay?

[Thanks for Indian Ocean in providing this website to us]

HOW IS CANCER OF THE CERVIX TREATED?

Options for treating each patient with cervical cancer depend on the stage of her disease. The stage of a cancer describes its size, depth of invasion and how far it has spread.

After the stage of your cervical cancer has been established, your cancer care team will recommend a treatment strategy......The three main types of treatment used for patients with cervical cancer are surgery, radiation therapy and, chemotherapy. ...........

.................

Radiation therapy for cervical cancer: Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays to kill cancer cells. These x-rays may be given externally in a procedure that is much like having a diagnostic x-ray. This is called external beam radiation therapy. It also may be given as an implant of radioactive materials near the tumor. This is called brachytherapy.

The skin in the treated area may look and feel sunburned, but this gradually fades into a tanned look, returning to a normal appearance in six to 12 months. Many women also notice tiredness, upset stomach, or loose bowels. Pelvic radiation therapy may cause vaginal stenosis (narrowing of the vagina by scar tissue), which might make intercourse painful. Premature menopause and problems with urination may also occur. If you are having side effects from radiation, discuss them with your cancer care team. There are treatments to obtain relief from these symptoms, and restore normal vaginal length.

Chemotherapy for cervical cancer: Chemotherapy uses anticancer drugs that are given into a vein or by mouth. These drugs enter the bloodstream and reach all areas of the body, making this treatment potentially useful for cancer that has spread beyond the cervix. If this treatment is chosen, you may receive a combination of drugs. Combination chemotherapy is sometimes more effective in treating cancer than one drug alone. Drugs used in treating cervical cancer include cisplatin, hydroxyurea, ifosfamide, and paclitaxel. These drugs kill cancer cells but can also damage some normal cells. Therefore, careful attention is given to avoiding or minimizing side effects.

Side effects of chemotherapy depend on the type of drugs, the amount taken, and the length of time you are treated. They include:

Upset stomach and vomiting (new medications given together with the chemotherapy can prevent these unpleasant side effects)

Loss or increase of appetite

Temporary loss of hair

Mouth or vaginal sores

Increased chance of infections, bleeding, or anemia (low red blood cells)

Tiredness

Changes in the menstrual cycle

Premature menopause

Infertility (inability to become pregnant) - Note: most women with cervical cancer are already infertile before chemotherapy as a result of surgery or radiation therapy.
Most of these side effects of chemotherapy (except premature menopause and infertility) stop when the treatment is over. Premature menopause can be treated with hormones. You will need to discuss this with your cancer care team. If you are taking chemotherapy and have side effects, there are remedies for many of them. Be sure to talk with your cancer care team about any side effects you are experiencing

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER TREATMENT FOR CERVICAL CANCER?

Each type of treatment for cervical cancer could have side effects that may last from a few months to many years. A woman may be able to hasten her recovery by being aware of those side effects before treatment and by taking steps to minimize them and shorten their duration where possible after treatment.

From the start, keep in mind that you must deal with your own individual physical and emotional factors. In the process of deciding what kind of treatment to have, for instance, you will find it helpful to discuss options with your family and friends, as well as with your primary care physician and nurse. At every step of the way in pre-treatment, treatment, and recovery, you should talk with your cancer care team about side effects, ways to make them easier to endure, and the general outlook, or prognosis, for your case. They want to answer your questions, so ask them!

Your body is as unique as your personality and your fingerprints. Scientists can determine certain facts about tumors and drugs, and doctors can use a variety of treatments to eliminate the cancer. But no one can say precisely how you will respond to cancer or its treatment.

You may have special strengths such as a healthy immune system, a history of excellent nutrition, a strong family support system, a deep faith. All of these can make a difference in how you respond to cancer. In fact, behavioral scientists have recently found that women who took advantage of a social support system, such as a cancer support group, survived with a better quality of life.

Follow-up Care

An important part of your treatment plan is a specific schedule of follow-up visits after surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy to be sure what, if any, additional treatment is necessary.

Follow-up may involve procedures such as x-rays, CT scans, ultrasound studies, or magnetic resonance imaging. There also may be biopsies to get tissue samples for laboratory microscopic evaluation, blood tests, and other examinations.

Lifestyle Factors

You can help in your own recovery from cancer by making healthy lifestyle choices.

If you use tobacco, stop now. Quitting will improve your overall health and the full return of the sense of smell may help you enjoy a healthy diet during recovery.

If you use alcohol, limit how much you drink. Have no more than one or two drinks per day.

Good nutrition can help you get better after treatment. Eat a nutritious diet. Researchers are also finding increasing evidence of the importance of nutrition in the prevention of cancer. Eat less fat, especially animal fat. Most patients should eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and high-fiber foods. However, if you developed diarrhea or cramping pain after radiation therapy, your healthcare team may recommend a low-fiber diet.

Exercise once you are well.

If you are in treatment for cancer, be aware of the battle that is going on in your body. Radiation therapy and chemotherapy add to the fatigue caused by the disease itself. Give your body all the rest it needs so that you will feel better as time goes on.

A cancer diagnosis and its treatment is a major life challenge, with an impact on you and everyone who cares for you. Before you get to the point where you feel overwhelmed, consider attending a meeting of a local support group. If you need individual assistance in other ways, contact your hospital's social service department or your local Division of the American Cancer Society for help in contacting counselors or other services.

Re: Cervical Cancer, side effects of radiotion therapy & chemotherapy

Hi Woodstock
Thanks for having posted this article about cervical cancer, just want to share some comments and ways to handle given by experts. It is just unfair that people are guessing about her conditions, just treat her like a normal patient and fans should be CONSIDERATE and give her as much moral support as possible. I think this is the most important things she is expecting on top of finding a miracle to heal her! I wish she could see this article but I am sure there are so many around.
We may have different religious beliefs but anyway God bless Anita, be courageous, I am sure you will overcome these ups and downs!

Re: Cervical Cancer, side effects of radiotion therapy & chemotherapy

After a long hiatus, I don't know how to begin again! But, thank you, Woodstock, for providing us with this link. I don't personally know anyone with cervical cancer (and I'm hoping to never know anyone who does), but I know people who have had lung and liver cancer and I know that the treatment is difficult for family and loved ones as well as for the patient. The side effects can be very painful. I hope that everyone keeps on supporting Anita. This is, of course not the kind of support that comes with autograph signing and cd sales. I'm talking about close friends lending a willing ear, buying her healthy foods, giving her space to rest. Dragging her out at 1 am to a bar is not good for her, even though it is fun. Second hand smoke is not good for her either. It is not enough to make Anita laugh. We really have to try to help her get better.

I don't know why Anita had difficulty talking at the TVB taping. I'm going to believe that she was tired, but she is the only person who knows the truth. She could also be taking chemotherapy, which often tries to cure cancer by preventing the proliferation of the cells. Well, cancer cells are not the only ones that turn over rapidly in the body. The throat and stomach cells do too. Therefore, a lot of the side effect that you see, the sores in the throat (making it painful to speak) and stomach upset is due to the inhibition of cell growth. If she is losing hair (hence the wig) she was most like undergoing chemo treatment.

I'm not a doctor, only a student, so this is just the info that I have picked up from observation, reading background info, and listening to med students. However, I do know that patients undergoing chemo have weak immune systems. (Maybe Ah Mui's white blood cell count was shot so she needed a transfusion. Is that possible?) Therefore it made me quite mad when Jordan insisted on kissing Ah Mui on the lips. On the surface, this is a very supportive and loving thing to do, but it's not the wisest course of action. Even the most healthy person is suppressing some kind of bacteria. By kissing, he's practically passing whatever he has in his mouth to hers. Ugh. I hope everyone takes care. Maybe we should come up with a symbol for "We love Anita". This is probably better for her than hugging and kissing.

Re: Cervical Cancer, side effects of radiotion therapy & chemotherapy

Aiya, Piccolo, you have gone to the moon?

Fully agree to what you said. To regain health and a full recovery from her present ailment, Ah Mui must change her life style, cut off her night life, should have more sun instead of moon; practice of "qi kong" will help her too. As I know, in all HK hospitals including the HK Sanitarium, they teach the cancer patients "qi kong" that must be clinically proved to be helpful, otherwise they won't conduct such classes, right?

Most important, after the concert and the movie, I hope she will take a long break to get herself fully recharged and health fully revivified. After all there is no such thing as super man. We, humans, are extremely vulnerable ! Health is more important than anything else!

Re: Cervical Cancer, side effects of radiotion therapy & chemotherapy

Aiyah, cannot help it mah. Last last month was mid-autumn festival. "Bun Yuuut" mah (yeah right, as if I was a great beauty like Seung Oh. Well. sigh. I guess I wouldn't want to be that beautiful anyway. Troublesome.)

I had big exam! Had to study study study. Still not 100% recuperate as I still have trouble thinking about things not regarding my topic of study. Didn't want to bore the forum to tears. Otherwise we'll all get electricouted (sp?) because we've short out the keyboard.

Life is never easy, eh? A long time ago, there was no light at night so people never ventured out after dark unless they were very brave or very strong or had torches. Now, people stay out all night. I read somewhere that scientist think that the amount of light pollution in cities is bad for our health. We don't get enough of "darkness." THat's why plants don't grow as well in cities. Do you believe? Maybe that's why chinese people are so short... same as big city people. Too much light!

Sometimes I wonder how HK people have any bone growth at all. You don't get any sun! Where do you get your vitamin D? I have been trying to get more sun because, as you know, the winters are very long here and it gets very dark very early (streetlights don't help vitamin D mah ) Some people actually start experiencing problems if they haven't stored up enough vitamins. Too much knowledge is not good huh? If you're not scared of one thing, you're scared of something else.

Glad to see Ah Mui is getting stronger. Maybe it really was sleep inducing medicine. I'm glad. I wouldn't wish throat sores on anyone. Strep throat is bad enough already!

Re: Anita, health is most important!

Yes, I agree with you. Health comes first, anything else can wait. Yes, for those of us who are dead worried about Anita for the past one month or so, we want a HEALTHY Anita.

When I was in HK watching the concerts from 06/11 to 08/11, my heart ached each night. I admire her fighting spirit. I admire her courage and determination. At the same time, I felt sad and moody. Of course, there's no doubt that she did her BEST and gave her BEST. It was a mixed feeling that could not be put into words.

Whatever religion/belief we have, let us pray for her and her health.

Hi Eve
I agree I hope that those money maniacs will not use Anita as a slot machines... Anita must prioritize things, HEALTH comes after all. I really hope that she can rest, it's good to hear that she deferred her trip to Kyoto. Al Qaeda is threatening Japan to attack Tokyo should the government decides to send in troops to help Iraq.... Anita is safer at home and this will give her some more time for rest.
Yes I totally agree with you, whatever our religious belief is, Anita will be in our prayers.

Dear Webmaster,
I believe the message is real, the side effect is bring from the treatment, but I still very worry about Anita. I am really afraid that Anita is lie to us, is her character that she don't want anyone worry about her.

Try to understand Anita's situation

Was happy and relieved to see Sandra Ng didn't mind to be an eyesore for others when coming to pay homage to Anita Mui. All this because nobody wants to regret for the rest of their life for not doing what is right. I believe after filming the movie "Yi Kuan Gun Mu" where Anita was suddenly became a supporting star, Anita didn't really hold grudges against Sandra Ng. But facing and becoming friend again was a difficult decision and situation as it would constantly remind Anita that her popularity and position rating has been dropping gradually. If I were Anita, I would do the same. If Sandra could put up enormous effort to pacify the critics and misunderstandings and not to give wrong impression to Anita as though she is now more popular than Anita, I think they can still be good friends. Just that because everybody is so busy and nobody cares to mind or try to understand the others that the whole situation became worse.

Same to go to Andy Lau. If at that time, he could try to understand better Anita and to tolerate her complaints and anger and not until he knew Anita had cancer where it was too late............. I'm sure now that Andy Lau had the same situation for his latest movie with Sammi.....

Re: Try to understand Anita's situation

Although I admire Andy Lau's for his professionalism and diligence, but I think at times, he may have been wrong at some time especially on his invitation for Anita to film in his movie as stated. The entertainment industry could be very materialistic and a promise maynot be a promise at times. At that time, Andy was at his peak but Anita was struggling to accept leading role in acting and she was optimistic and happy to be entitled the role but at the end, she was turned to supporting actress. Imagine how much hurt she was, and worse, the trust he had put on Andy had indeed given her a lifetime lesson that she could trust nobody anymore. Furthermore, Andy was not only the leading male actor, but also the boss of the movie. He surely had the power to decide who could be the leading actress or at least treat Anita Mui and Sandra Ng equally to be the leading actresses role.

I believe if Andy invites Anita Mui for his another movie, I don't think Anita Mui will accept. ZhangYiMou's recent movie where Anita was invited to film before Anita declared publicly that she had cancer was the BIGGEST Encouragement to Anita. Since Anita's return to show business in 1995 (or 1994..), I could possibly count less than 10 movies till her departure that Anita had filmed. Some were supporting actresses and some leading roles were not promoted well.

Basically they are good friends but I still think this is the regret that only Andy Lau will feel as what he is encountering now.

Frankly speaking, I love to watch Anita's movies especially those movies that focused on her. I like more of her comedy movies and she is in par with comedy kings such as Chow Sing Che (Stephen Chow) and Jim Carrey.

Re: Try to understand Anita's situation

i think that anita should haf know she was a supporting actress b4 she accepted the role. if not she can just reject the role if she were to find things the other way.

think she was probably angry with sandra over andy. imagine, if i were a good friends wif andy, then suddenly sandra seems to snatched him over, and pout nonsense abt loving andy in front of the press, wat will anita feel??? JEALOUSY and BETRAYER...even with good friends, if one's attention is diverted, u will feel jealous. i dun think andy is at fault here. he had always treat anita as his good friend and there shouldnt be any grundy between them maybe only a moment of fiery. thats all and they r still the best of friends. if not, anita wunt break news of her cancer to andy first.

many things cant be seems as we r only onlooker, wat we can do is observe but facts are unknown. especially wif anita gone.

p.s Hope u r well over the other paradise, MUIMUI

I think the reason that anita felt hurt and cheated when shooting the movie with Sandra and Andy was that she didn't know at the first place that she was a supporting role. If she had known and accepted it, she would not have been hurt so badly. When she started to shoot, she found out that the things were not the same as promised, and she felt betrayed by someone she trusted. Personally, I think both Andy and Sandra knew what's going on. But as anita really likes Andy, it is easier for her to forgive him.....or she is more willing to think it is not his fault.

The reason Anita wants to shoot "Ambush" is because of the director Zhang Yi Mou, not Andy Lau, please.

Re: Try to understand Anita's situation

JooJoo, your comment has indirectly implied that Anita was the kind of woman who place her jealously above her pride and dignity? Do u know that everybody knew Sandra was dating with her director boyfriend at that time? If Anita is the kind of woman you think she is, then she should had been very mad with her Japanese boyfriend and others and talked back about them. She is compassionate and caring and always trying to protect her previous boyfriends even after their breakups despite rumours about them being two-sided etc.

I strongly believe Anita was badly hurt because initially, she was given the role as one of the leading female actress beside Sandra but then her role diminished to supporting role during half-way filming.

And Gloria is right to say that Anita accept ZhangYiMou's role because of ZhangYiMou. That is all the while what I think is the biggest encouragement that her talent in acting is appeciated and admired.

Re: Try to understand Anita's situation

Ah Mui would never get mad, if she knew she was playing a supporting role at the moment when she accepted the script. As long as she liked the role, she wouldn't really care if it was supporting or leading role, as she played a supporting role in Eighteen Spring, and in her last movie [July Rhapsody] though leading role, not a big part.

For [Dance for a dream], even Sandra Ng said she didn't know how someone talked Ah Mui to take part in the movie. By my over observation, Ah Mui didn't know many of her parts were cut until she watched the premiere show herself, In other words she became a supporting role without knowing it in the first place, and then without being informed when her parts were cut. That was why she was so depressed that she felt betrayed by someone she trusted. But then it was mentioned that something to her seemed to be so important, while the other party didn't think was that important. So it is entirely different point view of value. The other party didn't intend to hurt her intentionally.

Talking about this movie, not only Ah Mui felt disappointed actually many audience (they are not Mui's fans) felt being cheated, because they went purposely to see Ah Mui as she was known to be a good dancer, but it turned out to be another "Wu Nor" movie.

But no matter Ah Mui was popular or not, she was still reckoned by all directors as the best, and most talented actress, otherwise she wouldn't win the best actress for her role in [July Rhapsody] in Changchun Film Festival. And Zhang Yimou would not have invited her for that "almost her last movie". But her movies didn't really sell recent years, it is only because of the culture of Hong Kong, because Hong Kong people (people who go for Chinese movies) don't really know how to appreciate the performing skill of an actor/actress, they are more interested in cast or some instinct laughter. Anyway, Hong Kong market is so small. But with the open up of China market for Hong Kong movies, if Ah Mui didn't pass away, with her role in Zhang Yimous' movie and another movie by Ann Hui, her success in movie could really be up to another peak. It is a regret also a loss to those who really appreciate her performing talent.

As for her friendship with Andy Lau, it was purely a friendship. It was not fair always said that she was in love with him. She was too good natured to retort that, but she explained that it was a beautiful misunderstanding. Also everyone knows who Andy Lau's girl friend is , so Mui would not be that silly to be in love with him.

Anyway, Mui never failed her friends and always so true to them. But those who didn't treat her well would regret for life, of course provided they have any conscience, and that is why Ah Mui kept on telling us treasure the one around us. In the complicated environment of entertainment industry, I daresay it is really difficult to get another friend as true and loyal like Ah Mui.

Re: Try to understand Anita's situation

Wholeheartedly agree with Woodstock although we may have slightly different observations on the cause.

Anita once said that she was not secretly in love with Andy as the media used to think. She merely likes but not loves, purely the kind of love of a friendship with Andy. I think she admires Andy, the way she admires Tou Jie and other talented, responsible individuals. She was very true and because of her sincerity and her upbringing of being neglected since very young, it was also one of her shortcoming that she was sensitive and easily hurt, as claimed by Eddie. She was hurt partly because it was her acting career that had been affected greatly, but she hurt more because she had been truthful and honest towards genuine friendships and she felt once again neglected (especially of her feelings) and this time by two of her best friends.

How I wish I could be Anita's friend or her dog/cat, give her full supports and be more sensitive to her especially when she was down, depressed and sick. If Anita wasn't in the show business, I wish I could marry her.

ML: you have spoken for many of us, as most of us wished to be her cat/dog, but she was just too high up there beyond our reach.

I hope you are not the one shouting at every show : [Marry me!]....I'm just joking.

Re: Try to understand Anita's situation

Woodstock and all:

I'm sorry that I may have unintentionally misleading you and others that I'm a Hongkonger. I'm a Malaysian, a Singapore PR and working in Singapore, and I was busy with my projects, working day and night (till midnight) that I couldn't spend time coming to HK to go for her shows. Also, Singapore newspapers seldom reported on her status and I didn't know that she was pretty sick at that time. Furthermore, the last tv show she was in wasn't shown in Singapore and even her filming in her last advertisement in Kyoto wasn't reported before her demise, as far as I can tell. Don't scold if I would to tell you that she was very pretty (with her wig of long hair) when she was very sick. I was astonished that she could be that pretty as she used to be quite boyish (with her short hair) most of the time. She should have kept her hair long as it suits her more and make her looks feminine.

In Malaysia, even a small village where majority are Hokkiens and other dialects as far back as 80s, Anita has never failed to mesmerise them with her unique vocal and superb singing and acting.

I had visited Hongkong 3 times. The third time was the recent one, to pay last respect to Anita. I entered HK as individual and on 9 and 10th, went to the funeral home and was stunned to see so many reporters waiting outside the hall. Couldn't get any closer as I don't wish myself to be on the newspapers or tv. No choice but to stand far away on the bridgeover, looking at the fourth floor where the newspaper said the her body was placed. I wasn't crying, feeling anxious but relieved that I can be so close (few metres) to her.

On 11th, queued up to pay last respect and pretended as Hongkonger (I'm a Cantonese) to get rid of reporters who were interested in interviewing foreigners. Shame on me that I didn't know that the red packet presented to visitors contains sweet to eat right after the visit until I saw others opened it and ate the sweet, after approximately 1-2 hours.

On 12th morning, I was standing opposite the funeral home where the ceremony begun at 11.00am and at 12.30pm, she was wheeled out and sent to the crematorium. It was so crowded and I'd to make my way out and managed to fetch a cab there. By the time I reach there, Anita's nephew already pressed the button to have her body cremated. I wasn't known and when there were crowds calling names, I thought she has not arrived yet and I started to peek from very far away and then I realized the crowds were calling those stars who came and ready to board buses to leave the crematorium.

Then, I saw her fans standing at the other end and I saw the smoke coming out and I knew I came late. I wasn't crying, maybe because the solemn atmosphere had already over but I'm glad that I came and I'd no regret. I slowly walked down the hill and at Chai Wan's shopping centre, I managed to buy Anita's latest CDs of her classical concert and I catch the bus home to NorthPoint Ibis. I stayed there till 17th to catch flight back to Singapore.

On 16th, I went to Mandarina Duck to redeem Ming Pao's booklets on Anita, the same booklet I received when I attended the public tribute to Anita on 11th. I must praise Ming Pao for the complimentary VCD of Anita that I can tell you couldn't find it in Singapore or Malaysia. All the while, I used to buy HK magazine of past copies from selected stores in Singapore (those published this week in HK will be available only in Singapore 2 or 4 weeks later) and the price not cheap (in S$) that it could double the original selling price in HK dollars equivalent.

Ever since the third visit, I can now tell you I Love Hong Kong and whenever there is disaster like Sar, I feel the same pain too. Once I've established my business, HK could be my first oversea venture for investment. The next time I visit HK, I must go to pay visit to Anita where her tablet is placed.

Sorry for my long essay and I must apologize also for some of my words and replies may be harsh and sound like teaching others lessons. I'm still at learning stage although my age is slightly younger than Anita.

Wish you all Happy Chinese New Year. To all Chinese, please remember your mother tongue is Chinese and value yourself as global Chinese throughout the world. (I am Malay-educated and I learned Chinese through lyrics, I can read Chinese, I can speak and like to speak Cantonese but I can barely write...).

Re: Try to understand Anita's situation

Ah mui is a person who looks good in any hair style. With her short hair, she looks more cute and with her long hair, i guess u can say, more sophisticated. But anyhow, Mui jeh is very different from other people. Not only because she can look good in any hairstyle but just everything.........

u know the old English rhyme: Little girls are made of "sugar and spice and everything nice!"...

Anita is that, plus many more great qualities no one can truly ever possess.

Re: Try to understand Anita's situation

ML;

Actually when you left your first message in this forum, you already mentioned that you are Malaysian. So you didn't really mislead anyone.

You are such a devoted fan of Ah Mui, so I thought that you might have come for the concert. Of course, never mind la, as I told all other fans, their work is the priority.

Also whether you came for the concert is not so important, as long as you treasure what Mui left us and the moment you spent with her, that is more important than anything else. Some of the fans might have attended 8 shows but never knew what's going on, because they had been talking so loud throughout the shows........it was rather annoying, that was actually mentioned by other fans under the thread of concerts. Most of them were Hong Kong fans, because it cost them less to go to the concert than those overseas fans. Also it is the general bad manner of HK audience........culture lo.

BTW, what did you do with the $1.00 you got from the funeral parlor? Hope you didn't keep it, because you had to spend it right away too.

Re: Try to understand Anita's situation

Woodstock:

I didn't know where I'd put the HK$1.00 after I threw away the red packet. I think most probably I'd pocketed it with my other coins to buy newspapers and magazines. Again I must be honest to you that I have never seen Anita in person, that's my greatest regret and I'm ashamed of myself, having to write again and again trying to find justice for her, as though I've known her for so long. I just want to understand her more and more and stand by her and voice out my unhappiness whenever I read any articles deemed unfair and to demand justice on her behalf. I act more like an observer. How I wish her big fans who had seen her and talked to her could write to any of your two forums about their experiences and encounters with Anita, or at least to correct me and others should there be any need. I do not expect anybody to reply to my topics but I wish Anita's fans and those who loves her to write new topics or reply to others if necessary as I see a need to keep your two forums going active, the only source that I could keep on talking and finding more about Anita from her fans. Anita has been my family, my part-time wife/sister/daughter at least for now.

I'd seen your topic regarding your encounter with Anita, presenting her bouquet of flower that she appeared in newspapaper, pictured with your flowers. Wow, the kind of excitement I could figure out.....

I've question here is why she climbed up the staircase (how many levels) and is there a need for her to dance when this concert is classified as 'Classical'? Did she do that in all the 8 shows? If yes, it's a MIRACLE. You know, a slight twist of her body, slight movement of her legs, shouting and laughing could be a lifetime pain that is so so unbearable (the pain I could visualize a hundreds if not thousand of the bites of red ants).

Thanks again for your forums.

Re: Try to understand Anita's situation

Sorry too fast again, never read before posting. Must emphasize MIRACLE WITHIN MIRACLE and not 'miracle' only (typo error). And thanks for reading and whether any of you reply or not to mine and others' topics' I know you all are reading. Just that your love for Anita is 'Words cannot express" but hope that you all do not mind to share with us, especially some of us who have never seen Anita in person, let alone an autobiography from Anita.

You know what I used to have this very strong misconception that the show business (entertainment industry) has no true love, no true friendship and everything seems to be too materialistic and fake, but with Anita's departure, I'm deeply touched and realized there still be true love, true friendship exists for minority in the much much complicated entertainment industry. Anita has changed my perception and value and I can say that she is not only the heroes of today and future show business, but also one of the heroes of today and future Chinese around the world.

Re: Try to understand Anita's situation

u guys're sooo funny, wishing to be mui jie's dog/cat. it shows how much u love her.

i find mui jie very attractive: she was beautiful in the '90 concert & the 10th anniversary concert, fit as a fiddle in the '95 concert, breathtaking in fantasy gig, not to mention the many attractive characters she played esp in Au Revoir Mon Armour, Shanghai2, Savior of the Soul '91, Heroic Trio & Executioners

Re: Try to understand Anita's situation

ML:

It is really a pity if you never saw Mui in her concert or in person. On the other hand, it might be better for you. The reason is that after you saw her concert you would never like to go to any other's concert. And after you saw her in person, you would become addicted, you wanted to see her more. Right now, you are luckier than many of us, because we grieve so much that we cannot see her anymore, and I would never go to any other concert, no more concert pictures.

Those fans who have seen Mui in person, they would all agree with me that Mui looked prettier than in photos. She was so stylish and she would mesmerize you. She was very feminine but also looked very authoritative. But she was also cute like a little sweet girl when she started to dance to entertain us at her birthday party. When you cheered her up by applauding, she would stop and smile sweetly and then continued again.

About the Classic Moment Live concert. she didn't really have to dance, except the quick steps with the Spanish dancers. But when singing and moving around simultaneously, not easy for a normal person, so I really surprised that Ah Mui could handle it. As it was mentioned in some other writings , she looked quite out of breath for the first part of the first show, it was because she still did the original dance when she was singing "Drunk in dream" - lots of movements when she knelt on the floor. So she was out of breath when she got up. I guess she cut out the dancing part in other shows, as I didn't see her moving too much in the 8th show.

Basically Mui didn't like standing still to sing. Though she didn't have to dance for the last concert, she still moved around from one side of the stage to the other, how frequent depended on her physical condition on that day. She didn't climb the stairs during the 1st show, but she did during the last show (I don't know about the shows in between). I think she tried to let more people have a chance to shake her hand and she liked to experience the warmth of audience once more.

You are right it was dangerous. On the first day, I was excited that I was able to give her the flowers, but you know she had to stretch out to get it just as I had to stretch out to give her. Afterwards I told myself it was so dangerous for her, if she really fell off the stage, I would be guilty for my life.

So during the last show, I worried so much when she bent down to accept little toys from so many fans, and so many times. If she got dizzy, she would just tumble off the stage, even the security guard standing beside her would not be quick enough to hold her back. I was murmuring to my friend next to me that she should not do that. Even Cheung Man Yee sitting beside me, was wondering why they gave her so many toys...........sigh.......but Mui satisfied her fans by accepting all the gifts they presented her herself ..........of course, now we understand she knew very well this would be the last time.

Oh well, once started to talk about Mui, I got so much sweet memories of her. She will be in one chamber of my heart for the rest of my life.
